You can now upgrade to 1.2. Just click check for updates on your dashboard or help menu.

Here are the details from the readme file for this release giving you a quick list of the new functionality & bug fixes that have gone into this release.

Functionality Changes
=======================
- self paced voting is available for use with expression devices. (requires firmware update to expression devices) It is possible to generate basic numeracy tests. You can also create tests with your own question set. With this students are given a question individually so they can work through the test at their own pace. Questions are displayed on the expression device & not on the flipchart page. - local resource searching. It is now possible to search local resources using keywords & filenames & also by resource type.
- Compass now has menu options that enable it to be resized, show angle & mark centre
- clock can now be resized smaller by hiding the options & just displaying the clock face
- PDF import facility has been added
- can now create shapes by dragging from centre by use of new setting found in settings/tools
- voting results now display summary results for the whole flipchart & not just results for each individual question
- new settings for voting including default device type to use when voting
- property browser sections can now be expanded & hidden for ease of use
- can no longer use keyboard shortcuts or flipchart bin to delete a page to prevent accidental deleting of page
- area screen recorder is now available

- Unanswered devices can now be included in the voting results by use of a new LRS setting
- starting safari or firefox web browsers through inspire will now open one instance instead of two
- Error 1606 no longer occurs on network install
- connectors are now added to the top layer so the connector end point is not hidden behind the object it is connected to
- can use fill tool to fill punctuation marks
- sound is recorded when using screen recorder
- extract text now works correctly in saved flipcharts
- flash objects will work correctly in imported notebook files
- send to back action on imported v3 flipcharts now works correctly
- problems in primary mode with text on imported v3 flipcharts has been fixed.
- can now fill text dragged onto the page from firefox web browser
- align actions work correctly
- number entry expression question now allows more than 48 characters to be used in the question
- Flipchart files now show flipchart icon in finder on the Mac
- percentages in voting results are now correct & a new setting, "count unanswered devices", is available so users can control how the percentages are calculated
- improvements made to PPT import

The revealer tool worked in 1.1; however it is having issues in 1.2; when a page is set to "tools off" but the revealer tool was on the previous page, it will not turn off. When chosing "close" from the revealer option,it first restores to revealer to full position, then you have to choose to close it again.

I tried to download the upgrade, but because of problems accessing the proxy server, I couldn't. There should be more about this available soon but my understanding is that this new update of ActivInspire (1.2) will allow you to use Self-Paces Questions with your ActivExpressions but that they (the ActivExpressions) will need to be updated with a newer version of the firmware to allow fo this to happen. Not sure yet how that works though. One of the cool things about ActivExpressions is that there ARE updatable so you will be able to take advantage of a feature that wasn't even though of when you bought them!

That's cool! Nothing more annoying that buying something and a new feature or version comes out and you can't do it!

Overall the upgrade has been nice and I am well pleased. The export feature for data unfortunately pales in comparison with what SMART can do with their data. Don't get me wrong. I am truly a Promethean fan. Promethean has been the best. Your hardware, Activarena, etc! Hats off! My issue with the self paced interface is that it is small and hard to work with. The questions on the expression display have the same issue. A Palm phone has a larger display. When I pull up a graph in the self paced question window of Inspire, the window with the graph freezes and won't close. Also, I can't see any way to export the results to Excel. Is there a way?

On the positive...Thanks for all of your hard work in improving the software. The paint bucket now works like it did in Studio and the overall look and feel of the software is excellent.

One other thing. Please consider adding an option on the insert .pdf menu for "current page size". Many people aren't going to know how to set a page size in pixels. Most teachers don't use that measurement. It's about as well known and used as the term Mickey; which indicates the smallest movement a computer mouse can make. Thanks again for all of your efforts!

After waiting since NECC and see the new ActivInspire 1.2 there, it is great to now have it downloaded. I'm just starting training in my district and it is great to have this for the teachers when they come to our first train and can take a few minutes to upgrade and all be on the same page.

In setting up the questions, the bit about levels and correct answers is confusing. I updated through V1.1 by check for updates on 2 PCs one with XP and one with Vista. I did not get any error messages. When I went to search in the resources, on both computers I was prompted to index. After indexing I was able to search without any difficulties.

There is a newer version of the application available. Simply use the Dashboard or Help Menu to check for updates to receive a fix for the Revealer tool and for the Freezing results problems

Each of the downloads is a setup file. This actually means that you can also download the setup files once through the dashboard at home and then pass them onto others via USB drives or CD's. I would personally download it once, place it on a shared area on the network and email members of staff to say the update is available

I am sure your IT support would be able to assist you with this approach

I just updated to the new version and now Equation Editor made equations will not transfer to a flipchart. It makes the entire project blackout. I wasn't sure if you had input on these types of things or not. A fix would be nice.

For all the Mac users wanting to update the firmware on their hubs and expressions:

Make sure your Drivers are updated to 5.2.7.

If the Activmgr's control panel does not highlight the "Upgrade" button when you select a Hub or Expressions device, it is because you must be logged in as a user with "administrator permissions". Once you login as the administrator, the "Upgrade" button is enabled.

You can then select the "Upgrade" button and follow the directions posted for updating on a PC to complete the upgrades (some PC to Mac translation is required).

Hopefully, my pain will help others' upgrades go smoothly.

I hade a Dell PC computer with integrated Webcam, and I did not found the function:confused:

Did the import tool only work with Twain Driver that are delivered with Scanner, or is it immaginable to plug a Webcam or a Visualizer directly???

Other Question if we have suggestion or customer feed back concerning bugs and demanded funktion, did it exist a forum page for this??

Prior to installing ActivInspire 1.2 my board was interactive and I was using Activexpressions. Now that I have had our MIS department upgrade to 1.2 my board does not work and my Hub lost its green flashing light???? To trouble shoot I had a friend bring in her Dell latitiude 5500 computer and I connected my board and Hub and everything works great. I have an old R40 IBM laptop Windows XP my drivers are 5.1.1.25a. I sure would love to have an active Activboard back! Any suggestions? By the way, I am a digital immigrant, so please go slow / layman type on the directions.

By the way, when I reindexed my resources after upgrading from 1.0 to 1.2 it took almost 30 minutes! So my computer is almost as slow as I am.

Are you running Vista on your computer? If so, you may be experiencing a similar issue that I had with my personal laptop when I upgraded this past weekend. After I upgraded to 1.2 my activhub's light went from blinking green to solid red, so I called Promethean's tech support. The wonderful tech not only walked me through the fix, she also e-mailed me a pdf of the instructions. She said that for some reason, Vista can be very stubborn. My light is now blinking green and everything is working for me.

YOU MUST UPDATE YOUR HUB'S FIRMWARE!!!! :) Then all will work great!!

I had the same problem :o and then I realized that on the download page, there is a small fine print that says, "Update your Firmware on your HUB in order for all things to work great in V. 1.2 of Inspire"

This can be done by going to the ActivManager (white box with the orange Promethean man icon on your desktop: bottom right for PC's, top right for Mac's). Your Hub will need to be plugged in, in order to do the update. Choose CONTROL PANEL. You will have to select UPGRADE, then LOAD the file and then run it by selecting UPGRADE again.

This was very welcome to see along with several of the other capabilities. In checking it out, though, it appears the label properties for an object are always expanded when you go back to that object, even if you have closed that particular section of the properties, so it appears that still needs a little tweaking.

The current default settings for the property browser are for the following sections to be expanded by default:

Outline Fill Label These apply to Shapes and Text Objects

Outline Label These apply to Highlighter, Connectors and Annotations

Page Grid These apply to Pages

Opening another section such as identification will then do the same for all other objects you select on the page with the property browser open.

Just click on File->Import, and you'll see the same options as in Activstudio: Powerpoint as Images and Powerpoint as Objects. I would imagine the latter is what you've used in AS.

You can import PowerPoint but you cannot EXPORT as PowerPoint in ActivInspire. You CAN however, print your flipchart as a PDF and that can be opened by anyone even if they don't own PowerPoint.

If you want the flipcharts to retain their interactive functionality, folks can download the free ActivInspire Personal Edition.

What happened was I had drawn a free hand line then decided I should draw it using the shapes tool so selected the eraser to rub it out. This all worked fine but when I then clicked on the shapes tool and started drawing the line, it was a little picture of the eraser that was drawing the line rather than a pen!

If this makes no sense then I will do a screenshot tomorrow and attach it!

Yes this is a known issue, unfortunately it wasnt fixed for the 1.2 release.

Please consider not upgrading to 1.2 if you are Mac OS. My rep shared with me that the Mac crashing problem was the topic of discussions at recent meetings. 2-4 major crashes per day. Data loss each time. Promethean has sent me one message saying they are looking into it. They are requesting I do homework on the problem. I thought there would be a patch by now, but things seem to go a bit slow... I would never have upgraded, I assumed the Mac upgrade was solid....

I'm wondering myself about all of these reported Mac crashes. I do want to point out that I, too, am using a Mac and have 1.2 and ActivInspire has NEVER crashed since I upgraded it.

Now, how can that possibly be? :eek:

I still have Activstudio on my computer (and sometimes run both at the same time!)
But...I haven't upgraded any drivers (AT ALL-- even when ActivInpire came out) or have attached Activexpressions as most of my work is purely in development of flipchart materials and NOT actually using a board. Although I have used an Activslate and Activhub which worked fine.

Some of the reported issues appear to be from people using Snow Leopard which unfortunately isnt supported yet. It should work ok in Snow Leopard, but we havent been able to test Inspire properly on it yet and confirm it.

We do investigate every reported crash and its currently our highest priority to get these issues fixed, so problem flipcharts and crash logs are always helpful, those along with other useful information like software and driver version numbers greatly increase our chances of narrowing down faults and finding a solution.

I tried repairing all my Disk Utilities, but I still have some crashes. I am going to e-mail some issues directly to Tech Support that I have seen - but I can't get anything done differently on my Mac than I have... all other Mac issues have been resolved that I know of, and I crashed while trying to use the tickertape this morning. So... Something isn't quite perfect yet, but I do love the new additions of being able to have the interactive degree changing protractor and compass. :)

I read the original post to this thread, and I do not see where to import a PowerPoint in ActivInspire. I have checked both the dashboard and File>Import and find nothing. Please advise. Thank you.

I've upgraded to ActivInspire 1.2 but now I'm unable to use my AvtivHub and ActivExpressions. Apparently I need to do a firmware upgrade. I use a Mac but I'm not able to find any information as to how to do it on a Mac. Can you please help me? Send me the instructions or something. I need to use my ActivExpressions. I feel like I'm in the dark ages without the full use of my available technology. lol. Somebody please help me.

We also use Macs and the following is summary of what I suggest you do. Several of these items are posted on other threads, so I'll collect them for you.

First: Inspire 1.2.13973 needs the driver upgraded to 5.2.7 - you will find the driver update package at:

Click on the "ActivManager & Driver" tab and you'll see the Mac download icon.

Second: the hubs and boards are only recognized by the user logged in the first time each device (hub or board) is connected to the computer after a restart. Here is the procedure I posted to get the board (and hub) recognized by the desired user:

1. unplug the USB cable from the board to the computer (unplug Hub also)
2. restart the computer and login as you
3. power cycle the board (unplug the power cord, count to 10, plug the power cord)
4. after both the computer and board are fully up and working, then attach the USB cable (plug hub here)
5. start the Activmgr application to make sure the board (or hub) is recognized
6. if connected, calibrate and go.

For both Hub & board, don't plug in until after the restart and after you have logged in as you.

This should get you working with the board and hub/expressions.

If you want to use the new "self-paced" feature of Expressions, you must also update the firmware on the Hub and the Kernel & firmware on each Expressions device. Look at the same link as above to for the procedures:

This time, click on the "Self Paced Learning" and follow the directions on updating the hub firmware and Expressions Kernel & firmware. You must be logged in with Administrator's privileges to update the firmware on the Hub and Expressions (remember, you must log restart your computer to have the non-admin user be able to use the Hub or board - see the 1-6 procedure above). The directions are for PC, but with a little PC-to-Mac translation, the directions are usable.

Finally, you should "repair file permissions" using the disk utility under: Applications->Utilities->Disk Utility
(do this even if you don't upgrade the Hub & Expressions firmware).

This is long, but it has gotten us working. We are still waiting to see if the permissions repair stops some of the strange crashes of Inspire - the above does get the board, hub and Expressions recognized and usable.

I have 2 Activ 2 boards they wont recognize the USB driver. I will try this part, let u know how it worked out.

Thank You GeoKBehnke!!, this is great indeed the driver was well installed/recognized by Win Xp, so the cycle you explained works perfectly.
I am so happy, we already installed the older driver 4.1.14.20 so get the board going. Now everything is back t normall!

I just upgraded to 1.2 last week and have been using it happily. Until today. I was creating a new flipchart today, not an upgraded one from ActivStudio or one that I created in Inspire with an earlier version.

And I found that I can't move pages in the browser. I can copy, duplicate, delete but I can't move them. Does anyone else have this problem or can help me fix this?
