I have seen some posts saying to look for an ActivTips about containers, however I don't see one in there. Is it gone? Does anyone have some simple ways for containers? I am playing around with it but think I am missing one simple step. Thanks.

There isn't an Activtip yet about Containers using ActivInspire. But if you click on the tab on the video player, I think there are tips about them for Activstudio.

I think new tips are in progress on creating containers using ActivInspire.

I created one for our district website. It isn't as good as what Scott does, but I'll attach it and check it out. I hope that it will help you until Scott comes out with one of his fantastic one.

Thanks for the movie - it really helped me to understand. Can I make text objects into items that should be contained. In history, for example, I would have a series of statements and then I want to be able to put them into containers called causes or consequences. It would help if I could give the text objects keywords 'cause' and 'consequence'.
Thanks,
Oliver

Yes, text objects can be contained. You just cannot contain "groups" of objects. So for example if you want a picture with a text to contain as one object, you would need to take a camera shot of them and make that one object and then you can contain that.

Hope that helps!

I have been able to "contain" a group object of text and horizontal lines. In the flipchart attached, the "sqrt(2)" and "7.6 repeating" are each grouped (text and horizontal line). These grouped objects can correctly be placed in the correct "real", "rational" and "irrational" containers.

The important thing to remember about Containers and items going into them is that the item can't be larger than the Container. The text can be an item to be contained and do what you want. I did one on Nouns and I typed each word into its own text box. Again, it could be a phrase but just remember that the item being contained can't be larger than the Container.

Another issue many of my coworkers have is layering with containers. If the container is not on a layer lower than the object, it will not contain it. I usually create my containers first then the stuff to be contained to eliminate any issues with that. Another cool tip: If you are doing context boxes (where the students have to find the correct word to put in the blank), you can make a container over the blank and then make it transparent and it's like the container that isn't there. The kids just think the flipchart is really smart and knows which word belongs there. I teach first grade so to them it's magic! I love using containers because then my students can do the flipcharts during a center without me having to go and check their work....it's self checking!

FYI, there are now three Activtips specifically about Containers:
see below

http://www.prometheanplanet.com/server.php?show=nav.1147

Container Examples- Various uses of containers
Container Objects- How to make containers for specific objects
Container Keywords- How to make containers that contain objects with specific keywords

Hope this helps!
