Is there a way to freeze the screen with the flip chart still up, but I can then do something else on the computer?

I have an orange projector, so if you have one of those, your projector remote should have a "freeze" button. Press the "freeze" button, and that should do it. :) To make the flipchart go live again, remember to press the "freeze" button again. Just remember that if you want to use your timer, it freezes the timer on the screen, but it keeps counting down on your computer. hth...

Yes. My board came equipped with a remote control for the data projector that allows me to freeze the screen and continue working on the laptop on something else. When you 'unfreeze' by pressing the 'freeze' button again, the screen will show whatever you are currently viewing on your laptop screen. Be sure to return to the point or document/flip at which you 'froze' the screen so the viewers don't get confused or titter at your email to Great-Aunty Thelma in progress!
If you do not have a remote, then I hope you get an answer!

Thanks you for that question and the answers. I have learned something new:), as I do every day on the forum.

If your projector does not offer a 'Freeze' option, you could consider a 'dual monitor' approach. This involves extending your desktop onto two displays and then driving the projector with a second VGA output from your computer. Most laptops offer this capability from the VGA port. With a desktop computer, you may have to consider obtaining a twin head graphics card.

If you search the forum for 'dual monitor' or 'dual display' you'll see lots of threads discussing the pros and cons of such a setup.

Hmmm...I don't have this button on my remote that everyone else is talking about!

If you don't have a "freeze" button, there may be a button on your remote that says "custom". This button can be customized to do a specific task--so mine is customized to freeze, but only because I set it up that way. Without my remote in front of me I don't remember, but somehow with the remote there is a preferences screen or menu or something that allows you to do that.

In regards to freezing the screen, I have my students control all aspects of the remote. From K-12, it is a task that they can do and it saves me time. They know to turn it off when we leave, which saves resources. If I want it frozen or muted I just say the word.
Also, some projectors have "mute" or"black" buttons, which makes the screen appear dark, but keep the projector on. This is useful for short periods where you dont want them distracted by things on the board.
