I've managed to install activinspire on my laptop running ubuntu jaunty.

Activinspire works although it runs a little slow at times, but that could just be my machine.

My main problem is that I'm trying to connect to the activboard using the serial port (that's what all the computers in my school us when connecting to their respective pc's). However when I plug the seriel connection into my laptop nothing seems to be recognised.

I have the following activ packages installed from the jaunty repository

activaid
activdriver
activinspire
activremote
activeresources-core-en
activtools

thanks for your help

Unfortunately the ActivDriver for Linux does not support serial communication. Dependent on the age of your Activboards, you may be able to connect them via usb - Promethean Technical Support should be able to advise you further - you can contact them via www.Prometheankb.com (http://www.Prometheankb.com)

NB They will need the product code/serial number of your Activboard

Just to add a serial to USB converter will not overcome the problem as this is still seen as a serial device
