I helped a colleague install Inspire onto her computer yesterday (she has just received an Activboard), and an error message appeared during the installation. The only option that would allow the installation to continue was clicking "cancel." It rang a bell when I saw it and I remembered receiving the same error message when I installed Inspire onto my own computer. I decided to reinstall Inspire onto my machine to see if it would happen again. It did, and I took a screen shot each time it popped up. They can be viewed by opening the PDF below.

Hi dbolyard

I'm assuming this error occurs when installing the software after choosing the 'Full Install' option.
I ask only because there is a known issue very similar to this when using the 'Network Install' option and just want to be sure it's not the same thing.

Could you also post up the installation log file for this which you should find on your machine here:

%TEMP%\Prom\Bin\ActivInspireCoreRes.txt

Neil.

Neil,

I did choose the full install option. Here is the file you called for:

Hi Darin

Thanks for the log, after looking at this it would appear that there is a rogue space in the path being passed to the installer. Not sure yet how this is getting there but will continue to investigate.

For now as a workaround you can try to install the Core Resources by doing the following:

- Run the download and let it extract to your temp folder.
- Wait at the Welcome Dialog when it appears.
- Run this from a command prompt or the run box:
msiexec /i %TEMP%\Activsoftware\Res\ENU\ActivInspireCoreRes.m si INSTALLDIR="C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Activ Software\Inspire\"
- Now you can exit the main installer.

Hopefully that should install it OK.

Neil.

Neil,

Just to clarify, when I received those error messages, I canceled the message boxes and continued the installation. However, when I am working in Inspire, my resources seem very limited, especially after going through one of the online tutorials and the resources I was instructed to insert into my flipchart were not there.

So, I was going to uninstall and reinstall, taking the steps you lined out in your recent post. However, when I went to uninstall the program components, the list showed "ActivInspire Core Resources v1" on the list. I have provided a screenshot of the list. I will go ahead with removing the program and reinstalling, taking the steps you recommended. I'll post the results.

Looking at that it does confirm that you did indeed already have a copy of the Core Resources installed. I assume that this was v1.0.3 from the original V1 release.

However there is no real need to uninstall anything as the resources i think you are referring to (that seem to be missing) is the larger Main Resources set which was a separate download.

You can get them from here:

www.activsoftware.co.uk/update/Inspire/update/win/ActivInspireMainRes.msi (http://www.prometheanplanet.com/forum/www.activsoftware.co.uk/update/Inspire/update/win/ActivInspireMainRes.msi)

If you have already uninstalled everything it doesn't really matter, there is no harm in re-installing from scratch.

In fact doing so you might find that the 'Web Download Installer' runs through absolutely fine without the original error.

Neil,

I followed your instructions and still received the same error message. The program is installed once again, but the "Core Resources v1" now does not appear at all on the list of program components. I have provided another screenshot of the list. I tried the link above for the Core Resources, but the link is broken.

In addition, I have provided a screenshot of what my resource tree looks like in Inspire. Upon navigating through the folders, it still appears to be lacking.

Thank you for your patience and continued support. You are much appreciated!

Looking at your screenshots it appears you now have everything correctly installed apart from any ActivInspire Resources. Your Resource Tree is only showing your old Activstudio structure so to get the ActivInspire ones do the following -

Download these 2 packages:

http://www.activsoftware.co.uk/update/Inspire/update/win/ActivInspireCoreRes.msi
This is the Core Resources installer.

http://www.activsoftware.co.uk/update/Inspire/update/win/ActivInspireMainRes.msi
This is the Main (General Subjects) Resources installer. (Appologies for the previous broken link)

Install both of these packages by simply double clicking to launch and run through the installers each in turn.
(Check that the chosen install path is the correct one)

Once these are both installed you should have the complete set of ActivInspire Resources on your system.

Neil,

Everything appears to be working properly now, with all the resources. [clap] F.Y.I. Anytime I attempted to uninstall/reinstall from scratch, the program maintained my former settings and kept my saved profiles and remained updated to the professional edition. However, I was delighted to see that my resource tree, upon my last attempt, now looks the way I assume it should. I am pleased that everything is no longer individually labeled "shared--" (drove me crazy!). You can open the screenshot to see it if you would like to.

You have been great! Thanks for all of your assistance and attention to the problem. The support received here on the forum is greatly appreciated!{}

Sincerely,
Darin Bolyard

I saw just the issue that is described here in a training class. It wasn't a problem on any of the Vista and Mac machines, but was a problem on all of the XP machines. They all had downloaded the latest installer from planet. It returned the error message that it couldn't find location: c:/documents and settings/all users/documents/activ software/inspire. The only way to complete the installation was to click out of this error message. I used the links for the resource installer above and the Core Resources installed as they should.

I am still experiencing problems installing Inspire. I have uninstalled it and tried several times to get it up and running. I have tried clicking on the "run" box and typing in the path codes suggested earlier in this post. The resources are there but the program itself has not been installed. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This has all been very frustrating because I was experimenting with learning Inspire before switching laptops. Now it's impossible for me to use this program since I've been unable to resolve this problem.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

I am having similar installation problems with the Main and Core resources. After uninstalling and reinstalling ActivInspire multiple times, I found this thread. I have downloaded both the Main and Core resources from the links above and both show in my installed programs, but are not accessible through ActivInspire. Could you please describe in detail the path I should use when installing them so that they will be available through the resource tree?

Thanks for any help you can give.

This has a been a known problem for a long time now as has yet to be fixed. Ever since v1.2 as to my knowledge--
