I'm using ActivInspire 1.1 on a mac. I'm trying to insert a flash (swf) video. If I use Insert > Media, the flash appears on my page but there is no way to control it - like stop or start. If I use Insert > Link > File and choose placeholder and controller, the flash plays just fine and continues to loop forever. The only controls that appear are a camera and a background - neither control starting and stopping.

I'm new to flash so perhaps the problem is in the file itself, not in Inspire.

Any suggestions?

Bonnie,

I am having the same issue. Could anybody answer this?

Select the Flash video within the flipchart.

Now that it is selected, go to your browser pane and select property browser.

Scroll down and you will see the options you are looking for. There will be a section called "Multimedia" if you do not have this section, then you may not have selected the video properly.

hope that helps,

As a general point, stopping and starting FLASH movies can cause problems.... Generally the developer should include the navigation - providing another navigation in Inspire could break that.

For example problems can arise if "hidden frames" in the FLASH movie that are used to store data/code are exposed to the user or if the execution of the FLASH code is stopped.

Ideally, If you only want FLASH video - export from FLASH as a .FLV file - the FLASH video format (or use a convertor).

This will appear in Inspire with a video navigation bar. Inspire supports .FLV files.

Navigation controls do not appear either in Inspire or in Activstudio for embedded swf video.
Even when the settings are set to show the control in the multimedia tab, it does not show up. As Bonnie observed only the camera and background option appears in the controls. I think this is because of the way the swf file was created by the developer when publishing it from the .fla file.

One way to stop, rewind, play and forward the file would be to right click on the embedded file as it is playing and you will see the native flash controls. Not perfect but could work.

Thanks for all the information. I now know more about how the software works.

I did try right-clicking on the flash object while it was playing but nothing happened. Later, I tried a control-click and that did work. I use a mac with a mouse and the right-click button usually works as expected. For some reason, this time it did not. I'll have to add the control-click to my troubleshooting bag of tricks!

Thanks,
Bonnie
