If I am cutting and pasting images from Google Images, sometimes the image is very distorted and unviewable, other times the image pastes fine. Anybody else experiencing this issue and have a fix?

I find that most of the time copy/paste works fine for me. But in the case that it does not (for whatever reason, maybe "file type"), if I use the camera tool to capture the image, that usually makes the image look ok.

The camera tool you would need to use is available from the desktop tools icon.

Lisa - that brings up a good question I have. In Inspire, I can only use the camera tool to put images in a (regular) flipchart when I have that flipchart open - and Inspire does not allow to keep the toolbar up while it is pushed down or to the sides or while the flipchart is minimized. The only way to take a snapshot of external software programs is to have the Desktop Flipchart running... then I get the image taken on the desktop flipchart. The only way I have found to get the image then inside my regular flipchart is to select the created camera image from the desktop flipchart and COPY it - then I have to go back to the regular flipchart and paste in there. I have asked several people if I am doing something incorrect or if this is the new way that the camera tool has to be used and it seems that this is the only way to use the camera tool in external software programs. Yes, it still works, but it sure does add a couple steps and I think (new) users might be fairly confused by needing to have 2 flipcharts open and understanding the 2 modes in order to use the camera tool.

Please correct me if I am doing something wrong and do you know if the original way the camera tool was used in Studio might come back? :D:D I will keep hoping it does!

Have you tried using the camera from desktop tools?
It should be on your toolbox by default but if not, go to configure & commands & add it to your toolbox.

Hi Louise, yes. The Desktop Tool bar is the ONLY way to use the camera tool on other programs, and it puts the image on a DESKTOP flipchart, not a regular flipchart, which is precisely the problem I was trying to work around. I was trying to find a way to just have the regular flipchart out of the way to use the camera tool on other software (which can be done in Studio, but not in Inspire) - and it just can't be done by how I see to use it.

See if this guide doesn't help. I think you are choosing the Desktop Annotations tool and not the Desktop Tools.

I had some workshops but saw this earlier today... I was about to write a reply for this that was almost identical... Lisa you are amazing...

Phedder in regards to your initial request some of that really relys on the resolution at which Google finds the hosted image... You might have to adjust your googe image settings under "Advanced Image Search" and then you can designate image size with Medium, Large, Extra Large. Any after Medium should look great even scaled up or down on the board...

Thanks for the help - but the only way I can see to put images from other software directly into a regular flipchart (not a desktop flipchart) is if the main tool bar is pulled to the far right and then the whole flipchart is pulled to the far left of the desktop screen (or vice versa), allowing both the regular flipchart (Inspire software) and another software to run at the same time - allowing for a different version of "arrange windows" to be possible and therefore use the camera tool on other software.

In Studio, the main tool bar could stay OPEN while minimizing the flipchart. This no longer is possible... as far as I can tell. Both Annotating on the Desktop and using Desktop tools to use the camera function ONLY allow for images taken to go directly to a desktop flipchart vs. putting the image directly into a regular flipchart... My issue with this scenario is just that it adds another step of now needing to copy and paste the image(s) from the desktop flipchart into the regular flipchart. Does that make sense?

That is not correct. You can use the desktop tools camera to put an image directly into the regular flipchart. I do it all the time.

I just don't know what I am doing wrong then... I looked over your guide, but I guess I just am missing a piece to the puzzle. Not trying to be a nag, I just want clarification, thanks! :D Maybe I need to change a Setting in my preferences?

You can call me if you want! I'll pm you my phone number! Maybe if we're both in front of the computer at the same time, we'll get it figured out!

Must be something! I'm curious!

Using Desktop Tools DID work this time. I don't know what I was doing wrong before, because I swear that the desktop tools (previously) had made the images go to a desktop flipchart - - - but I am just so glad that it was probably all user error and not that the software didn't work the way I wanted it to. :D I did play with some of my settings, but whatever was different, it now works - so thanks Lisa!

Using the desktop tools (camera) is an excellent way to capture any image displayed on your computer screen.
What is so incredible about Promethean's software is that there are multiple ways to accomplish what is desired.

I like to re-size my windows, having Google images and Inspire both open. Then I can simply drag and drop from the website to my flipchart page and resize as needed.

Desktop Tools certainly is a great tool and very easy to use but is there any way to check an option so that it does not capture the camera options box when taking a snapshot? You can normally just move the option box off to the side but sometimes on large images where you don't want the whole screen or window you just can't get it in a place where you can click button to capture the image without the options box being in the snapshot.

Guess the other way around this would be to add some cropping tools into Inspire like the ones in word or are they already there and I've not found them?!

I just click on the desktop tools icon and the flipchart minimises, leaving my little tool circle. Then I click on the tool circle, choose the camera and select a bit to snapshot. I then choose to either paste to the current page or next page, choose the return to flipchart button on the tool circle and my flipchart is there with my image.......

but I am havig trouble with google images! but it only seems to be one or two computers, so I am investigating the settings

I have another way to accomplish this. First, make sure you are using the actual image, and not just the thumbnail.

On a PC, you can drag the image to the taskbar and hover over it. After about 1 second the application (must be open and minimized first) will maximize. You will still be "holding" on to your image. From there, you can simply drag it onto the next application and drop it.

I use this all the time to drag images from the web into Inspire or Word or anything else. You do not need to have the two applications side by side, as mentioned above. This also works with dragging and dropping text or even files from one folder to another.

Once again, have all the folders or apps that you want minimized. Then take the image and hover it over Inspire. Lastly Inspire should pop up and allow you to drop the image in.

I hope you find some good uses for this trick. It comes in handy :)
