Is there going to be a "viewer" for Inspire that will allow someone to view a flipchart without having the software - like the Activstudio viewer does?

Since ActivInspire Personal Edition is free for anyone, that should serve as a viewer that will enable users to have many more options that just a simple viewer.
You can even choose any of these languages!

So we could have our students download the Personal Edition at home and use it to view flipcharts we've created?

Yes. Student Edition is freely available to anyone and it will allow your students to open and view your flipcharts.
But as Lisa says, it is more than simply a Viewer. Your students can also use it for creating their own and/or modifying the ones you provide.

This is great to know! Thanks Lisa and Nigel.
I'm going to have a 1:1 environment next year and this is going to be huge! [clap]

Hi
It's true : the free personal edition is huge and great for those students who are able to download and install it and then have nooooo problems at all. And this forum is proof enough that 0 problems doesn't exist !
Out of 25 of my pupils (14years old) ONLY 3 have managed to download and install it without any problems. In another post a member, Thomas, father of a boy whose teacher sent him a .flp file for his homework called the personal edition version a monster. And that's what it is. The students in fact just need to visualise and redo the interactive work with the flipchart. School has hardly started, they were full of joy getting activInspire but now... problems over problems, their motivation is near zero for my flipcharts at home ! Great.
So, why can't there be just a viewer like the precedent one ? It could be just fantastic.

The full download is rather large as it includes lots of other things, such as the Activboard driver, handwriting recognition, Help files, etc.
If your students simply want the ActivInspire application to use at home, ask them to download and install this...
http://www.activsoftware.co.uk/update/Inspire/update/win/ActivInspire v1.2.14501 (Application Only) setup.exe (http://www.activsoftware.co.uk/update/Inspire/update/win/ActivInspire v1.2.14501 (Application Only) setup.exe)
It is less than 40Mb.

Hi Nigel,
your help was great ! Thanks a lot. I've got a new question.
Is this lighter version of the personal edition of activInspire compatible with a network of 20 computers ? I mean, can I install it on a server and than dispatch the use of it to the 20 pc's ? Or do I have to install it individually to make it work ?
Thanks
Birgit

Hi Birgit,
Whilst Inspire should run from a network drive I would advise each computer have its own copy, ideally on a local drive.

Hello Nigel,
That's great to have the answer so quickly. Now I can organize my day tomorrow at school and put a copy on each local drive. It's worth the work as the students love working with the flipcharts.

Thanks so much Nigel - this makes a lot more sense than having all the additional features that the user is not entitled to use in the Personal version.
