I had previously written the bit below following on from the thread about Favourite Features. However, it wasn't answered (by Rob Radcliffe - naming and shaming here :p) so thought I would start it as a new thread. I really am interested to know more about using the recorder for animation.
"Hi Rob
Would you mind elaborating a bit about the children doing their own animations? It sounds like a really good idea but I can't think how I would go about doing this.
Thank you"

Sorry Laura, haven't checked the board for a few days! I seem to spend most of my time moderating our own board!
Well, basically, the children use the Flipchart Recorder as a simple step-by-step animator. They will put in the background of their choice, then put in images, etc. When they activate the recorder function, they move their "characters" step by step, and also play around with the appearance properties to make things fade in and out.
I've attached an example - hint, play around with the "delay" box to make the animation playback speed up or slow down (the speed you do the recording at isn't the speed it will play back at)
....Well, I would attach an example, but .flr is an invalid file type. I have had to put it on as a zip for now.... Maybe a good thing to enable flr's then I can upload a few samples!

Hi Rob
Thank you so much for attaching your example - I think it's fab! [clap]
I can see so much potential for this and know of a certain individual in an Art department in a college who will love this too!
I'm going to go away and play with it now to see what I can do!
Great stuff [clap]
Thanks

I can see this ending up as a competition! Set time delay to 0.1 sec.

OK - I'm seriously impressed now!
I just need some time to give this a go - I can envisage adding speech bubbles, thought bubbles, lots of ideas for using this in PSHE sessions and more!
Just great [clap]

Yup ... I could have had some under sea bubbles ;) , but there are so many ideas - perhaps there could be a prize!!

This animation works best at 0.1
The historical one at say 0.5 - this idea could transfer well to photos of people changing over time.

I work for New East Manchester Education Team (used to be EAZ), supporting teachers from both Primary and Secondary. I manage an Advanced Learning Centre for ICT, where the children learn IWB skills among other things! The recorder is a great way of getting the children to use their creativity!
Will look at the other FLR's now...gotta love that Under the Sea one!
One of the teachers I work with, Chris Carney, has links to music etc, so she starts off the "soundtrack" before launching the flipchart recording, which makes the whole thing even more effective [clap]

Dan - I'm sooooooo impressed!!!
I LOVE the historical one, looking at the same place at 3 different times!
I'm really looking forward to doing some advanced sessions with teachers so that I can show these off.
Well done! [clap] [clap]
