I am trying to come up with a procedure that my teachers can easily use to setup their activotes/ActivExpressions to be able to tie a given response unit to a student and then when the response units are used to be able to export the data to Excel.

The process seems cumbersome to me. What I did:

1) Got all of my response units out, numbered them, and turned each one on.
2) Went to: Voting Browser -> Device Registration -> Chose ActivHub -> Chose ActivExpression -> Register
3) Indicated number to register and registered each one.
4) Renamed each one
5) Assigned students (somewhat generically using Student01, etc) using PIN #s.

That part seemed to work fine. I knew exactly who was usually which device. The problem comes when you export the results to a spreadsheet they don't come out in the order you would expect - and you cannot "sort" in the spreadsheet in the Summary tab - although you can for a given question. Not even if you remove the header lines can you sort.

What I had to do was copy and paste the values into another spreadsheet to be able to sort. It would be great if the spreadsheet was sorted from the beginning to avoid that last step. Most teachers would like to be able to take that information and transfer it easily to a grading program in which the names on the spreadsheet easily align to the names in their gradebook.

This is one of the processes that could be addressed in the updates to ActivInspire. I love the software - lots of great things - and this certainly won't hamper my use, but for the less tech savory it could be a lot cleaner.

Any suggestions to help our teachers better understand how to get these easily setup would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am also having a problem recording my results. The main problem I have is the absence of a method of collating a 'total score' from a series of questions. This seems to me an obvious feature to have, especially given the prevelance of flipcharts with a series of 10 questions (e.g. spelling tests). Currently I have no way of knowing the total mark of each pupil.

I'd also like to be able to arrange handsets into groups (e.g. boys v girls) and see a team score, or cumulative team score. I like the way names can be clicked out to 'freeze' them out (e.g. if they misbehave), but I'd like to see more flexibility with this system, to allow team games.

Here is a little discovery i learned somewhere: due to the formatting of the excel file, you have to actually click on one of the tabs along the bottom (ie, Question 1, Question 2), and then back onto the summary file in excel. Once this happens, you will be able to get the devices to line up alphabetically.

Hope this helps!
