I wanted to set up a hyperlink on a Powerpoint slide that would open a Flip Chart, but I couldn't get it to work. Am I doing it wrong or is this just something you cannot do?

I just tried using Powerpoint 2002 and ACTIVstudio Professional latest version installed and the flipchart opened for me. I did receive a security warning from MS office asking me if I wished to open the file clicking OK then launched ACTIVstudio and loaded up the flipchart.
Do you know if the extension .flp is still associated with ACTIVstudio on your computer?
If not then that may explain why PowerPoint cannot launch ACTIVstudio to load your flipchart.
There may be another reason of course .. anyone?

Well, I can't resist a challenge!
Start ppt. Then window ppt (ie not full screen, so you can see part of your desktop). I then tried dragging and dropping a flipchart from my desktop on to the ppt page. That worked, and the icon launched the flipchart in ppt preparation mode. However, in presentation (slide show) mode the icon didn't launch the flipchart
So, in powerpoint, right click on the flp icon and choose action settings.../hyperlink to.../other file then browse to the flipchart file. Then it works [clap]
Can I just state publicly - I HATE Powerpoint  . If you have to use it, try to get kids up to the screen to click stuff. Showing screens (even if you use those [ultimately boring] wizzy effects) prohibits interactivity and leads to boredom and eventually sleep!
Use ACTIVstudio, at least we have page turn effects to alleviate the boredom! :)

Hey Pete,
Any ideas whether functionaltiy will be added in the future to support animatons(gifs) and being able to forward and return to a page using a presenter tool?

AirSkeeter,
I have tried (successfully) running PowerPoints with animations in a smaller window over ACTIVstudio. Just make sure that PowerPoint is clicked in the 'Linked File Hosting' section of Studio settings. Then set up a hyperlink to your powerpoint with animations. It's great because you can still write notes in ACTIVstudio, and replay the animations in ppt.
(I would agree with Pete's assessment of most PowerPoints I see, but it is great for dropping endings on words in languages!)
All the Best

Thanks Ros,
Most of the technology sesions at our state conference are usually on PowerPoints. It's getting to the point that we are calling it,"Death By Powerpoint". I taught a course on GPS use in education last year and this coming year, plan on teaching two. One still on GPS, Building upon last years course, and one on AS2, using the whole system.
While I was a PowerPoint addict, I now see where I can do most everything I need to do in AS2, except those darn gif's.
Have a great one!!!!
