Is there any problem with Inspire opening flash utilities? I am trying to open the random name generator made by Daniel Bunker. The flipchart opens fine in Activstudio, but if I try to open it in Inspire it won't load my students.

Here you go...

Long ago I downloaded the app and the text file. You edit the text file in notepad and change the students to your kiddos names. Then you embed it in the flipchart. When you hit "L" it should load the file. It works fine in Studio, but Inspire says it has an error loading the file. I even open Inspire, deleted the XML file, and tried to reembed it by using "insert media" or "insert link". I can't get it to work at all.

Thanks!!

Hi Holli,
I was able to make your flipchart work in Inspire.
Please see attached.
There is a different way to embed flash files in Inspire if the flash file needs data from an xml file.

Once again you save the day. [clap] You're kind of handy to have around. :)

Yes it is working! Now HOW??? I have two more of these for two other classes and I need to know how to edit it when I get new students. :)

Go to Insert - Link - File

Browse for the swf file.

Select Placeholder in the Add Link As option

Select Store File + Directory as the next option (making sure the xml file is in the same directory as the swf file.

That should keep the data and the application together.

Placeholder is greyed out and it won't let me choose that as an option.

Are you sure you're pointing at the swf file? Placeholder setting is available for all swf files on my PC .

It looks like a flash file, but its name has an .exe extension. Maybe you can attach the flash file to this and I could resave it.

I can click on the flash file outside of Inspire and it will open the flash file and open the XML file to read the names. I just can't embed any of it. This shouldn't be this challenging!:confused:

Just where might I get this app and the text file? Would love to try it!

This is such a cool flipchart - but I am missing something. How do i change the .xml file?

I am very disappointed that my flipchart that works beautifully and easily in Studio will not work in Inspire. I understand that Inspire is written and coded differently. However, if the flipchart worked in Studio, it boggles my mind that it won't work now! I do not understand how I was capable of editing and saving it correctly before, but now I am apparently not smart enough to do so in Inspire. Placeholder is not an option. It is greyed out.

My students have really enjoyed this flash utility. I guess I will have to open the flash file outside of Inspire and use it there.

Frustrated :(

If you can find the original swf file in the folder and link to that (including folder directory) it will work. In AS 3 you would have done this as an exe file never has had a placeholder option.

If you can't find the swf file send me a screen shot of the exe running and I'll look out the appropriate swf file. There's so many versions of this I can't just send you one.
