Hi there
This is my first post, so hi to everyone, I'm sorry it's quite long.

At the school I work in we have an ActivBoard with ActivPrimary in
each classroom.
There is 1 board where the pen keeps spiking, therefore the teacher
is unable to use the pen for writing on the board and she is constantly
having to keep using the mouse and keyboard.

I have tried many things with the board so far:
-Updating to the latest driver: This fixed the spiking for 1 week
and then it started again, so I tried un-installing the driver and
re-installing it, but this did not work

-Firmware update: This did nothing

-Tried another power supply: This did nothing

-Tried another pen: This did nothing

-I tried un-installing and re-installing the whole of ActivPrimary, then
doing a driver/firmware update: This did nothing

-I unplugged the monitor on the desk which runs into a VGA splitter, this
actually fixed the spiking, only for 1 day and when she turned the
computer/ActivBoard on in the morning (Today) the pen started spiking
instantly

-I've also tried another PC with the board: The spiking still happened

The only other things left to try (That I can think of) are:
-Trying another data (Serial) cable
-Trying another ActivBoard

Using:
Firmware: v3.67
Driver: v4.1.14.20
ActivPrimary: 3.0.62

Can anyone else recommend anything?

I'm trying to avoid trying another data cable/ActivBoard due to the
boards being fastened onto the walls and the cables running through
trunking up into the roof and down to the back of the computer, but it's
coming to the stage now where these are the only things left to try.

Thanks for reading and any help is appreciated - Steve

I think you've done all you can yourself. Have you tried tech support?

Thanks for the reply Lisa.
I decided to take the board off the wall today as I found a spare data cable.
I hooked it up (via USB this time) and the pen wasn't spiking anymore, I just hope it stays like that, if not, the next step will be calling tech support.
Thanks once again - Steve

Steve,

Is it still working? I had this problem a year and a half ago when we upgraded some of our boards and when an engineer came to look at it he reset the electrics and said that if that didn't work they'd replace the board.

I've been meaning to post back on here, but I just haven't got round to it.
Unfortunately, the board decided to "spike" the very next day it was switched on :( and has been doing since then (1 week as we had 1 week off for half term)

Alison: Thanks for your reply, I think it is the electics box on the back of the board, so I'm thinking the next route is tech support for a technician to come out or something (as I don't want to get a new box for ~£250 and if that doesn't solve it, we've lost that money anyway), but I'm not sure on the warranty status, as I've only been working there for ~6 months and the bursar thinks the boards have been up for near on 4 years now but she said she'll find the paper work regarding the warranties to double check and see if we have any left.

What is the minimum amount of warranty that come with the Activboards, I doubt it'll be more than 2 years at the most?

Thanks - Steve

Hi Steve,

This is clearly very annoying and very irritating for you - BUT can I just say that this is very unusual and clearly is not normal behaviour .

Can you please telephone technical support (the tech support tab is at the top of this page) and they will help you with your issue. As you may appreciate this type of thing is very difficult to diagnose from "afar" as there are all sorts of things that could be causing this problem.

If you feel uncomfortable ringing or can't then if you email me with your telephone number I will get somebody to ring you.
