View Full Version : Not dumping memory

Whenever you close out a flipchart, usually activstudio will dump the temp. memory associated w/ that flp. Now, for some reason, when I close out of a flp, the memory is not dumping or emptying. Only when I close out of ActivStudio does it empty the memory. Is there a setting that has been toggled or something?
Thanks

You're right. Studio holds onto memory for flipcharts. But it is not leaking memory. Explanation...
Activstudio can open up to eight flipcharts at once. Each time you open an extra flipchart (ie more than one at once) studio will reserve memory for each new flipchart.
If you then try to open a ninth flipchart you will be told to first close one of the eight.
In other words Studio will never grab any more memory that what is required to open eight flipcharts simultaneously.
If you only ever open one flipchart at once, ie open one flipchart, then close it, open another, then close it, open another, etc, Studio will only hold memory for one flipchart.
As you correctly state, Studio frees up all memory used when you close Studio.

Nigel - Thanks for your reply but I'm not sure I understand you completely. Let me explain what happened when I just closed out 3 flp's. The page file memory was @ 720 mb when I began to close out the the flp's individually. After closing the 1st, the memory remained @ 720 mb. Memory actually increased to about 740 when I closed out the 2nd and increased to 760 after the 3rd. It used to be that whenever I closed a flp, the page file memory decreased by so many mb. It now only decreases whenever I close out the entire ActivStudio program. I've thought about uninstalling and reinstalling the program but was curious to see if there was an easier approach.
Thanks

What utility are you using to monitor this?
If you open a flip, close it, open it again, close it, etc, does the memory usage continue increasing?
Have you monitored our new application ActivInspire?

Well... the problem is fixed though I'm not really sure why or what the problem was. After unistalling then reinstalling the software, memory still was not dumping. I had one flp open and everytime I'd turn a page, the memory would increase about 20 mb - even if i would go back to previous pages. On a 2 mb sized flp and ActivStudio the only program running, I had the memory at 1.5 gb!!! before shutting down Studio.
I called tech support and they suggested that I go under studio settings then general tab and select "reset all settings". That did the trick! Studio is back to normal. The same flp mentioned above is now running normally. I even opened up 6 additional flps to see what that would do to the memory. It did nothing to it!!!
Nigel - again, thanks for your help. I'm so glad you guys there to help. I know you all don't know all the answers but I really appreciate you taking the time to help me figure it out. :).

Interesting. But I cannot think what setting may have caused this situation.
Congrats to the Tech Support team.
