Personally I don't think that you could ever convert a Smart Board to a Promethean board! What country do you teach in? There might be some options for you but it will depend on where you are based.

Also have a look at the Preview of Inspire. When this is out in March there will be a version for download to use on any Interactive Whiteboard!

My "understanding" is the when Inspire comes out in March (released version) there will be two versions: Personal and Professional.

The Personal version will be free to anyone including folks with Smartboards.

The Professional (according to the press release I have seen) will be $99 per user. (But I am sure there will be multi-user licenses for larger purchases.)

Not sure exactly of what the differences will be between the two versions.

Advantages:
Advantages of Inspire for "mixed" environments will be your abiity to share flipcharts among the teachers in your school/district, the ability for EVERYONE to download and modify/use the resources on Promethean Planet as well as the advantage for EVERYONE to be able to use Activotes and/or Activexpressions regardless of which board you have purchased in the past. Inspire will also import Smart Notebook files so they won't "lose" previous lessons that they have created.

Hope this helps.

Might pay to check local Licensing Agreements first!

I have just moved to Qatar to teach at a new school where Smart Boards will be installed. I am very disappointed, as I have used ActivStudio for seven years and have built up a huge bank of resources. I have installed the Smart Notebook software on my laptop and have tried importing some of my ActivStudio flipcharts, but they don't convert completely. Sometimes text is missing, sounds gone, links gone etc etc. Does this mean I'll never be able to use it? Does anyone have a similar experience?

Instead of trying to convert flipcharts to Notebook, you will be much better off by running Activstudio/Inspire on Smartboard.

That way you wont have to convert any of your valuable resources and you still will be able to continue using Activstudio/Inspire

I agree. You can also download and use all of the great flipcharts and resource packs on Planet!
