I have always loved using Reader's Theater with my 3rd graders. This year I added something new - an idea that came to me while they were rehearsing in front of the ActivBoard. Why not use the AB as background for the story? I had the kids draw different parts of the story and scanned their drawings. Then I made a simple flipchart, and one of the narrators discreetly turned the pages as the story changed. Our audiences loved it! I think it really kept their attention.
Definitely something I will do again!

Thanks for the idea, Carole, I think I'll try it after vacation.

We have also just made scenes within Activstudio or pulled in pictures. The kids beg to be the one to make it and/or run it. I attached a couple.

Heather,
Have you been posting those to the regular flipchart area on planet, or just here on the forum?
~Ben
PS: LOVE this idea! I did a few of these with my kids last year, and they absolutely loved them!

Ben,
I hadn't posted them because the plays are all copyrighted and I didn't figure the flipcharts would be much good without the corresponding scripts.

Ahhh! I had completely missed that you had links on the front page to link to the scripts! Very intelligent, Ms. Temske!

My kids (4th grade) create scene markers for our readers theater, complete with pictures, etc.. We then play that in the background during the play. They create it in Power Point and then import it into Activ Studio. It is great for a couple of kids to do, if they don't have a role in the play.
