Connecting Classrooms with Elluminate

I just saw this news story and accompanying video! These students were able to connect real time and meet each other as well as work on the SAME flipchart at the SAME time.

I think this is amazing! What do you think?

That is awesome.

We have a similar situation in Minnesota, where a student is homebound, and they still get to be part of the class by using webcams and Elluminate!

Using elluminate is quite amazing! I was able to connect with a student of mine last year while he was undergoing dialysis treatments 3 days a week. He was able to see, hear and participate just as if he were in the room. It was incredible! His teacher this year is continuing the connection so the student doesn't miss out on 12 hour of school a week. [clap]

It seems that Promethean Planet has somehow embedded Elluminate's vRoom functionality or services right inside of the site. I'm not too technical, but this sounds really cool! It is part of a new section of Planet called "Activconnect!"

Activconnect Ideas!

Make FlipPals Join up with other classrooms from different parts of the country and/or world to become 'sister' classrooms and communicate via flipcharts and e-mail to find out more about each other. The culminating activity could be a pre-scheduled time to meet their new friends face-to-face through Activconnect.

If you have a student in a class with a health issue preventing him/her to come to class, he or she could come to class via Activconnect and be able to fully participate in lessons.

There are times when there are not enough students to complete a special class like Latin 3 or Japanese (or a teacher available to teach it at that location.) These classes could be taught via Activconnect a few days a week allowing the students to take these classes. This could be especially helpful for rural school districts who may offer fewer class options.

Your class could invite a remote "expert" on a subject to visit with them for an hour. This could be a scientist in another geographic area or an artist. This could also be a way for students to learn about various careers.

This is truly the best of the best. I loved the video and am excited about trying to do this with my LD self contained class. However, I have no idea what elluminate is and what exactly it is that I would need to do. Any resources out there with this info?:confused:
