Hi,

I am tearing my hair out trying to move an object incrementally but along a diagonal, I know how to move it vertically and horizontally, up and down but cannot figure out diagonally.

Have a look at the attached flip, it is the basics of a noise level chart where the monkey moves up the diagonal scale every time you click on it, getting closer and closer to the panic button!

Can anyone help me move my monkey?

????

When you click on the object you would like to move another object, right-click on "Properties", then left click "Actions", "Object Position","Position Incrementally", then play around with the parameters. Parameter 1 is the X-axis, and Parameter 2 is the Y-axis. You will also need to click "Set" to select the object you wish to move. I assigned the monkey's movement to the "Panic Button" on your page, so each time you click the panic button, the monkey moves diagonally. I think I disabled the sound. (sorry)

Right click on the pen tool and select the diaganol line tool.
Draw a line perpendicular to your triangle.
Right Click (or double click) on your monkey and select properties.
Select restrictors > can move > along path > select the diagonal line you just drew.
Right click (or double click) on your line.
In properties select Appearance and uncheck visible.

Thank you very much. My monkey now moves! I knew there was an answer out there for me.

I will get it sorted and finished tonight!

Thanks again

;) Glad to help.

I did use yours to create mine, so if there was sound attached to the original, it's not in mine....

I altered the panic button so it moves 50 "paces" up the line.

First off, this might win the best thread title of 2008! :)

Good thinking Sean! Using the Restricted movement along a path was the same thing I was thinking off when I first read this question. Well done!

I'm with you, Scott! There must be some prize for that title. I was almost afraid to click on it!

As I have told my co-workers about this thread, I was a little embarassed to admit that I clicked a link that said, "Help to move my monkey!"

I get a lot of e-mails like that and I don't open those!

Ok, because I have very important things of my own to do that I am afraid of, I have done a little more work on the sliding monkey...

I have added a smiley and a sad face and made each of them an action button. If students are quietly working, you would press the smiley face which would move the monkey AWAY from the (now functional) panic button. If students are not working so quietly, you would press the sad face and the monkey would draw closer to the panic button.

At the end of a set time, because it might kill students to have to live with their morning mistakes in the afternoon, you can hit the reset button... which... wait for it... oh, you thought ahead, it resets the monkey to the middle of the scale.

Thanks for providing a project to help me avoid the work I should be doing!!! :)

Such projects are called 'displacement activities'. I have special expertise in this field :D:D:D

Thanks to you all,

Is there a prize for a good thread title? In my innocence I hadn't even considered the rudeness of my monkey gaff :D

At least it encouraged people to have a look!

The improved version of the monkey slide is fabulous, just the type of thing I was planning on.

Thanks again, now let me get on with more monkey business.+wave+

I love when I am not on the forums for a day or two, and then get back into the swing of things, and then there is a thread with this kind of title! Man, I wish there was a prize for creative titled threads!
