Ben, Triangular numbers are as follows: 1, 3, 6, 10, 15, 21.....
The difference goes up by one each time...
Think of the balls at the start of a game of pool when they are racked and the shape they make
x 1
xx 3
xxx 6
xxxx 10
xxxxx 15
xxxxxx 21
Hope this helps

I have never heard of this term before. Sounds really cool, and your explanation makes sense!

Ben,
It's easier to think of square numbers as numbers that can be drawn as a square of dots. That provides the link between the number and it's square - the square of 3 has 3x3 dots, i.e. 9.
we have allsorts of numbers in maths. We have hexagonal numbers, pentagonal, etc etc. The list is endless.
All they have to do is make the relevant shape...
Hope that helps...

We have counting numbers too they are really cool.....
have you noticed what happen to numbers when you multiply by 11?
34 x 11 = 374
42 x 11 = 462
61 x 11 = 671 what do you notice about the numbers?
ab x 11 = a(a+b)b
what about 56 x 11,
And three digits.... 342 x 11 = 3762
There is a whole lesson here
