Press Release - More Teachers than ever Exploring Promethean Planet

Promethean Planet, the fastest growing online teaching community, has reached a new record height, with over 200,000 teachers now collaborating and sharing interactive teaching content across the globe
50% increase in member numbers over the past 9 months
Over 300,000 resources downloaded in September alone from Promethean Planet as many teachers go back to school and leverage the power of Promethean’s interactive technologies

BLACKBURN, England, 16th October 2008 - Teachers across the globe are moving into a new orbit by logging on and tuning in to the wealth of interactive resources available on Promethean Planet. An online community developed by teachers for teachers, Promethean Planet, has witnessed a huge surge in registration this year with over 200,000 members now active, up by over 100,000 new members in the last 9 months.

With over 9,000 pieces of teacher-generated content and interactive lessons available for download as well as access to a wide variety of professional development materials and support from fellow peers; the world’s fastest growing online teacher community allows members to share lesson plans, best-practices and access content to prepare exciting and engaging lessons.

In today’s digital world, quick and easy lesson preparation allows teaching staff more time to concentrate on individual pupils’ needs. The interactive content available on Promethean Planet allows teachers to easily search a wide database for readily prepared lessons and adapt them for specific needs.

As an increasing number of teachers are using interactive technology and experimenting with lesson plans and interactive content; the online community provides a new way to share whilst simultaneously learning from peers. Promethean Planet also transcends cultural and geographical boundaries with teachers from over 200 countries accessing and participating in the forums on a regular basis. For example: teachers now have the ability to transport their students anywhere in the world with a range of lessons designed to bring global current affairs to life in an everyday classroom setting.

300,000 resources were downloaded from the site last month demonstrating that educators are both keen to collaborate and willing to share their lessons globally. This growth in members and use is also reflective of the use of the internet and social networking sites by teachers across the world. More teachers are acknowledging the advantages of becoming just as web savvy as their digital native students and are quickly bringing these skills to the classroom.

Commenting on the site’s growth and success, Jean-Yves Charlier, Chief Executive of Promethean said,

"Promethean Planet demonstrates the value of an online community developed by teachers for teachers. By logging on to Promethean Planet, teachers can access and use knowledge shared by over 200,000 global educators. Users can quickly and effectively search a global library of tried and tested material, giving them a world of interactive teaching expertise at their finger tips."

“We are delighted with the growing success of Promethean Planet and are committed to continuing to develop the online community and interactive services to even greater heights in the future as an integral part of Promethean’s Activclassroom solution offering.”

Woo hoo! Way to go Promethean! I am always pleasantly surprised about how much people are willing to share and/or jump in to help others. I've learned so much here! When I was new I always used flipcharts from others because it was so daunting to make my own. The fact that there are so many people willing to share is what makes this such a great place.

I may not post much, but I read the wealth of information that is available. Most times, my question has already been answered, so I don't have to ask my question. Whenever the opportunity presents itself, I share information from and about the forum with my colleagues.

There's nothing wrong with being a "lurker!" ;)

Teachers are busy and need quick answers. Sometimes the forum has the answer right there before your nose!

Yes, you are right. A lot of time, I have my answer before I ask my question from the forum.

Now is the time that I return the favor to the forum. Just like the moive "Pay it forward".
