Is anyone out there using their Activboard in Science classes with dataloggers? Any comments or advice? How effective is the combination, is it more useful in physical sciences or biological science?
Any comments welcome.
Thanks,
Hilary

Hi!
I have just got a smart board and want to use it with data loggers too. I'm obviously a real novice but keen to learn! What have you tried?

Could the Expression devices be used as dataloggers?

Just wondering.

I am specifically exploring uses of the Pasco Scientific probes: pH, light intensity, temperature, dissolved oxygen, sound level, motion sensor - don't think the Activexpression devices are up to that yet, but there's an idea for Promethean to think about... ;)

According to the Vernier web site, their software is supposed to work with Promethan software.

Hi Hilary

I regularly use Data Harvest's Easysense software on the ActivBoard. I cannot see any reason why any software or dataloggers cannot be used on the AB. Remember at its simplest an IWB is just a HID (human interface device). The advantage to the students is to see real time data/graphs being produced without having to peer around a laptop or small data-logger. Once a graph has been produced then it can be captured to AS to go with e.g. an evaluation or analysis.

What I keep meaning to try but haven't got around to yet is to have the data-logger and apparatus displayed on screen using a visualiser alongside the datalogging software.

Something I like doing is to put up a pre-prepared logging graph with covered axes labels and getting the students to try to work out what is going on. A particularly good one is to log light, sound and temperature for 24hours in the lab and get them to work out the times and types of classes that have been through.
