I've been pondering my lesson for tomorrow. I'm at a brand newly built school. The ribbon cutting is tomorrow an my county superintendent, state superintendent, and some politicians will be coming through the building for a tour. We are fully stocked with Promethean equipment, so my principal asked on Monday who was doing anything she could bring the visitors by to see the power of the ActivClassroom. I'm the technology integration teacher so I volunteered. I'm just not excited about the activity I was going to do. I'm browsing the planet to get some inspiration. I had planned to teach students about how to make personal connections (i.e., activate their schema) while reading fiction. What would you do if you were in my place?

3 suggestions:
1. Have the students actively involved in the lesson at the board...using the pen, moving answers around, or solving math problems using the ruler or other tools.
2. Have the objective for the day stated or have the state curriculum goals displayed for all to see.
3. Use the activotes to answer opinion questions or higher order questions.
Show how learning is taking place while the students are having fun...motivated...interested in learning.
Hope this helps !!!

I echo Brenda's sentiments to have the students up at the Activboard - after all, it is all about the students using the technology. I also think maybe you could incorporate a game for review? Search 'games' in the Lessons section of Planet and you'll get tons of cool game templates. You can take one of these templates and create a game for your lesson. You can even incorporate the Activotes with a game and involve everyone in the class.
Good luck!

Thanks for your advice. Here is the flipchart I delivered. The VIPs enjoyed voting along with the students.
Next, I need to learn classroom management strategies for exuberant children!

My favourite classroom management strategy once I had my board was, "I'm looking for a nice quiet person who is sitting on their bottom to have a turn at the board..."
Might even work for rowdy VIP's! :D
Nice flipchart too kbenson :)

Have you looked at this resource pack? Classroom Management Resource Pack. It has some ideas for "calling on" students.
