I need some new types of activities! I keep going back to the same ones and I am bored to death with them. What are your favorite activities to get your kids involved, up, and using their brain? We are on fall break and I wanted to get some flipcharts done for the "off textbook" books I wanted to do next week. I want to engage my kids, not bore them to tears, or keep them locked to the same kinds of activities.

Hello Janet.

Have you discovered the 'Themes' (http://www.prometheanplanet.com/server.php?show=nav.1141) section on Planet yet? This can be located within the Resource menu.

In here you will find numerous lesson ideas relating to a wide range of subjects, from Maths to RE, Sport to ESL and China to Shakespeare. Within each theme is a complete compilation of flipcharts, resource packs and weblinks - all ready for you to download and teach.

We publish a new Theme every week so keep checking back to see what's new. If you're looking for something to get your pupils engaged, why not check out the latest Theme on Halloween and Harvest (http://www.prometheanplanet.com/server.php?show=nav.16084) - there are some good ideas for spooky games. :)

Have you got a response system like Activote and Expression? They open up a world of ideas for new activities...

What about using more online content such as video or doing things that maybe involve the students making the flipcharts or leading the lesson?

Janet, I teach 3rd so I'm assuming your second graders would like this too. I got a flipchart off of the Planet a few years ago called Hot Seat and we use it for vocabulary. The kids LOVE it!!! It's like the old tv game Password. They really learn their vocabulary words quickly so that they can play it. You just edit the words and play. I've played with several variations to keep it fresh. I also use the flipchart timer with a cool sound at the end because they love trying to beat the timer. If you can't find the flipchart, pm me and I'll send it to you. Learning games are always a lot of fun to keep the kids motivated.

Cindy.

Ya'll are the best! ( that is the best southern belle drawl I can do) I love that hot seat game, I am going to put it in a flipchart I am doing for Where the Wild Things Are. [clap]
Too bad there isn't a way to list all the different ways to use all the interactive ideas that can be used in flipcharts we use in our classrooms with examples.... I Know they are spread out all over the place, but I am an army brat and I like things quick down and dirty.

Mark, we don't have any extras at our school, I teach in a large school, there are 40+ regular ed classrooms, and an additional 12 sp.ed .classrooms. Our goal is to get ActivBoards in the classrooms... even though I have done everything in my power to try and convince my principal that we need the extras also. She isn't listening to me yet... but I keep trying to endear myself to her so she will break down and get them for me.

Janet, please share your flipchart when you're done :) I checked out Lisa's Halloween Hot Seat and it looks really fun too. I agree about the down and dirty but I just visit the forum everyday and learn something every time! You might start or join a user group because it's a quick way to get new ideas.

I used a board game template I found on here and made a place value game with it. I'll see if I can find the link, the kids still want to play it all the time even though we're done with place value. You could use the game template for any subject area and it really keeps them interested.

Enjoy your time off!

Cindy

Hi Janet,

Don't forget to check out the Activtips found under Professional Development!

Last year there was also a forum that had Users sharing their 100 top tips for how they use their boards and software. Under 'Tips and Tricks' you can find the PDF of these ideas that the planet team collated. There are some great ideas, some new and some you have probably seen before but forgot about!

You could also try the Level One Advanced online training.

Some thoughts for where you can get ideas for more interactive flipchart pages:
1. Try looking at the Featured Lessons (http://www.prometheanplanet.com/server.php?show=nav.3573) section of the Promethean Planet. These are real quality examples of interactive flipchart curriculum. I frequently download these flipcharts and use ideas/pages to create my own flipcharts.
2. Try searching 'games' on Promethean Planet. This will give you all the game flipcharts available on Planet. You can then download them and make them your own.
3. I have attached a flipchart with a random sample of quality interactive flipchart pages from core curriculum areas. I have a presentation I use for principals, curriculum directors, etc. and I like to show them good, interactive pages taken from larger lessons so they can see the power of the Activboard (all the examples can be found on Promethean Planet or were created by me and I'd be happy to share how they were made). Sorry if they all don't have page notes?!?!?

Hope this helps! +wave+
