ActivSlate help please

Hi there. I've just treated myself to an activslate for my classroom.

Unfortunately, not sure that it'll work as my board is one of the newer ones (RF Board) with the blue circle in the corner and the slate is one that runs with an IR beam.

Am I stuck or can i get an adapter so it runs wirelessly???

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know how an IR slate would work with an new board. I didn't know those were still available.

yes - it was an ebay purchase. still brand new by the looks of it but perhaps obsolete

Update.....

Looks like I may have incompatible equipment.

The activboard is one of the new ones with a small flame in blue in the corner which suggests to me it is wireless only.

The slate is infrared based so unless I can purchase an infra red receiver to fit on the board that will then "Talk" to the board, I may not be able to use it.

Any help from anyone please???

I THINK these are two DIFFERENT wireless technologies. One is IR and one is RF. And I don't think they mix.

If you bought an "Activslate" made by Promethean then you have a slate that communicates by RF and not IR.

The Blue circle/flame on the board has nothing to do with IR.
Boards with Blue flame can communicate using RF to Slate and Activotes. It can also connect to the laptop/computer using Bluetooth.

The boards with Orange flame also communicates to the slates and activotes using RF. However it does not have bluetooth capability.

So if you bought a 'Activslate" it WILL WORK with your current board with blue flame.

Yes - the board is an RF board however, the documentation with the slate says nothing about RF anywhere - instead it speaks of needing a clear line of sight to the board. It also has a small glass window at the rear which I presume is the Infra Red sender. The logos on the slate seems to be much older (like the ones on an old 75 Activboard)

However if this WILL work with my newer board, can you please help me with the setup of it please?

Hi Stephen,

Based on what you say, it appears that you indeed have a IR slate.

I have been using Promethean products for the last 4years and never seen a Promethean branded IR activslate !! So very surprising.

To be absolutely sure I would check with Tech Support in your area. They will be able to tell you if it is compatible or not. You can get the Tech Support number for your area from the Support tab or you could email through the knowledgebase.

Infra red slates did once exist. They have a black plastic surround and will only work with the old infra red boards i.e. the ones with the black oval in the top left corner.

So sorry Stephen you've bought yourself a dud.

Perhaps someone with an older Activboard could use it?
