Most Commonly Used Actions

Hi Everyone,

I'm working on some changes to action authoring in Activstudio. We want to improve it so that it's quicker and easier to add the most commonly used actions to objects.

I'd be interested to know what your favorite/most commonly used actions are, so that we can help tailor the software to your needs.

-Linking to another file or website

-Linking to a Studio function
-Linking from page to page
-Changing objects from layer to layer

The ones I use most often include:



Switching tools (like to pen, to eraser, to highlighter, to selector.) Would like to extend it to the size and color if possible.
Hiding or showing objects (as well as send to back...front...)
Showing Page Notes
Reset Page
Links to url or embedded document or another page within flipchart

Wish list:
Would like to have multiple actions on an object if possible. Like play a sound and go to another page.
Would also like to have an action that is assigned to a particular page. "When arriving at this page, do..."
Would also like to have one action that occurs on "rollover" and another when you click on it.
Toggle hide and show (If shown, hide, if hidden, show...)

Hope I'm not asking for too much!

I like the idea too of having multiple actions too...play sound and turn page, etc.

Here are my most common:

file - sound & link to web or file
AS functions - on/off pen, eraser, fill, line, arrow on/off, ruler, protractor, show countdown/up clock, open tickertape, area camera, dice roller, & activote session
page - first & another
object - hide/show, back/front & deconstruct

Christian! If you could make the "Multiple Action" feature a reality, you would be an ActivHero to us all! And while you're at it, can you also work on some container features? It would be fun to have an "oops" sound if an object is not contained. Just a thought. :D

One idea.

On the Hide action, right now when you click it to hide, there is a "ghost" of the image still on the page. So if I mouse over where the image used to be, I still see the action button, even though the item has already been hidden. It would be nice if once something was hidden, it was gone.

Not sure if this is what you mean, but there is a choice "prevent action when object is hidden" that might resolve that. See screenshot.

Hope I'm not too late on this one - I'll echo all the above, particularly hide show toggle and multiple actions.
And - I use lock a lot for layers.

I would just like to agree with everything everyone has said, especially the piece about multiple actions (especially things dealing with sounds and another action). Also, as Kelly mentioned, a "non-reward" sound for containers would also be really cool! I had an actual addition to make, but after reading all of your requests, I can't remember what mine was anymore...

What I want very much right now is to be able to let an object that 'moves' (position incrementally) across the page trigger hidden actions.

Very exciting if we could have multiple actions!!

Some of my favs:
Delete, Show, Hide, Duplicate (if not using drag a copy), Play Sound, Embed Files, Flip or Mirror (for math teachers), Turn Page/Next Page, Turning on tools - ruler, calculator, protractor, compass, paint bucket, eraser, More Translucent (to see through something slowly).

Can't wait to see the improvements :)

I am trying to find SHOW page notes in my action menu. I am using a MAC, I have done it on my PC, but can't seem to locate it on the IBOOK. Please assist me.

Go to the object properties>actions
Select "Page", then about 6 down on the list is Show Page Notes.

A way to embed fonts like in powerpoint

Mulitple actions on one object

When you have copied an object / text etc a preview of what is to be pasted as there are many paste options if you copy different objects, text etc

Add pages to the flipchart builder (dont know if this is already possible - if so can i have some instructions)

When you click on the actions, select the radio buttons that says "Page" and scroll down to the 6th one.

Can it please be made possible that when an object is locked the underlying actions stay 'prevent when hidden' like I set them to be. I want to be able to drag an activated item out of the bucket first before triggering it's action.

Just another request:
make it possible to trigger more than one action object with a single button, but NOT reset the whole page. Like 'show a, b and c'
