Hello All,

I am a new user of Activotes and have great success with them in my room. I was hoping that someone as a solution to a small problem that I am having.

The night before I use the activotes in my room, I allocate the usernames to the devices and all works well for the next day's lesson. At the end of the day I put our precious little votes back into their case and lock them away in their cupboard for the night. When I go to use them the next day the student's names are no longer allocated to the device. When I open up a flipchart with activote questions in it, I get the grey screen that pops us that asks if I want named, anon or demo mode. That screen tells me that no users are allocated and I need to type my class list in again. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

I've tried using a manual from the PP website for setting up my Activote system but I'm not sure that it is for the same version of Activstudio that I am using because there are some inconsistencies. I am quite sure that I am doing something wrong in the set up process but I don't have anyone in my region that I can ask. Can anyone step me through the process for AS3 or send me a link to a tutorial or manual?

Hi
Whiversion of the software are you using? You have said AS3 but which? 3.7 was released last week. My first thing would be to advise you to upgrade your software. However, I am not entrely sure ow you are naming the devices...I'm thinking you are probably doing it right and hence it could be a software version problem. So try the update first and then if it doesn't resolve let us know.

Hi, Jacki.

Maybe you would like to do a test of device after you registered and renamed the device.

I have a same problem as you. It don't seem the system is clever enough to communitcate with each other after you rename it. It only register the name after I have "Test" the device. If I just close the registration program after the rename process, it will go back the old name for the device.

Hopefully, we are talking the same things and my information helps.

Hi (again :) ) Jacki,
I haven't had Activotes for long either so you may well get more useful answers than mine! However, here are some things that I've found out with a bit of trial and error:

- The Activhub needs to be plugged in BEFORE you start your software to find the names

- to be able to get your class set of names all the time, you need to set up a class list and have it saved as a file. Go to Main Menu> Activote> User database. In this part, go to subfolder one (you can right-click on it to name it 'Jacki's class' etc and then go to the User Menu and click Add. Type in all your class names. Then go to the file menu and choose Save. It will save as a ubd file. I save mine on my USB so I can always get it.

- Now if I can't access my class names and I am directed to the User-Device Allocation, I click on the 'Open' button, find my file and then I get all my names back.

Hope this helps a bit,

Cheers,
Rosie

Hi, Jacki.

It don't seem the system is clever enough to communitcate with each other after you rename it. It only register the name after I have "Test" the device. If I just close the registration program after the rename process, it will go back the old name for the device.

This is because the device name is actually written on to the device itself and it can only do this if the device is switched on. That is why you need to press a key - to wake up the device so it can get its name and write it to its memory.
