I am looking for a flipchart that will select whose turn it is . I saw one at a building in Illinois that boxes go around with the names underneath. Does anyone know where I can find on like this. It makes sounds also. I looked in classroom management and don't really like the choices there. Can anyone help:confused:

Hi there! If you do a search on the forum for Random name generator or random name selector you should find one created by Daniel Bunker. It is awesome. You might have to do a little digging, but it is worth it!

There is also a flip chart call "cup" It is just a cup with like sticks in it and you pull one out and a random name comes out. I hope this helps.

Cup is an awesome flipchart.
The Random Name Generator is also good, but takes a bit of computer/flash knowledge to edit it.

If you are curious how to create your own name cup, check out the Activtip on the Fractionator, as it uses the same idea.

This flipchart contains three "name choosers" I have made. Directions on how to edit them are in the page notes. I hope you can use them! ;)

Have you submitted it yet to Planet? It would more "findable" later on when this thread is old and gray.

I shall certainly be showing teachers some of these ideas for using in the classrrom.
We have somreting in England called Golden Time so the names out of a hat might be an opportunity to see who chooses first.

One of the activities that teachers offer in Golden Time is for the children to choose to use the iwb.
This is always a popular choice.

I am also trying to encourage teachers to use the iwb independently in lesson time as often it stands there not being used after the teacher has done the introduction. The teacher then uses it again at the end of the lesson in the plenary session.

I have seen children working independently at the board and really engaged in their task. The others get used to this as they know they will get a chance another time.

I've been playing around.

There are some excellent ideas above.
I liked the hat idea.
I wanted an uncluttered page.
I also wanted something that would be comparatively easy for others to edit.

My solution was to put a die on the first page, which then directs the student to one of six pages - where names are drawn out of the hat.

I have two versions - one to ease editing of names (name generator ready) and one to show how the finished article should look (name generator set) .

Feedback appreciated.

When you say you looked in Classroom management, were you looking at flipcharts only or also resource packs as well? There is a resource pack called Classroom Management with several ideas.

You can find it here:

For Windows, there is a freeware program "The Hat" that allows you to enter your class names in and it will generate a list of individual students or combine students into pairs. Once you have entered your class once, you can use it again and again.

Here is another one that is web-based http://classtools.net simply click on the select a template drop down menu and there are several to choose from. VERY easy to edit and use. There are also several flash animations that could be helpful in the classroom and work great on an ActivBoard.
