Hello,
I have been trying to set up the alphabet on my active board so that I can manipulate letters around the board to create new words-as in the Wilson Program if any of you are familiar with it. I am in a classroom situation where all of my white magnetized board is taken up by the active board. Last year I had magnetized letters on the white board that I was able to manipulate to make words etc...

Does anyone have any ideas as to how to set up letters as objects so that I can manipulate them?
Thanks
Mary Taber

I don't know what the Wilson board is...but maybe this page will help. I set up the letters so they are "drag a copy" so each letter can have copies of itself dragged onto the board. Perhaps it will do what you want?

Hello! What if you took a square out of the shapes section of the resource library then typed the letter that you need. You could then place the letter on top of the square and group them together. That way the square and the letter are one unit and move together. Good luck!

There are a bunch of great resources in this theme called:

"Learning the Alphabet!"
http://www.Prometheanplanet.com/server.php?show=nav.15742

It has tons of flipcharts, resource packs and websites plus an article to read and explore.

As far as the Resource Packs, you probably should download (and install) both of them!

Intro to Alphabet Resource Pack
http://www.Prometheanplanet.com/server.php?show=ConResource.14433
This Resource Pack contains over 200 objects, sounds, backgrounds, flipchart pages and flash files that you can use to create lessons for your early learners.
A huge thank you for all the contributors on the forum!
You will find that this Resource Pack is organized into various folders.
Examples include:
Backgrounds: 21 background including lots of new writing paper and other ideas.
Pages: More than ten template pages that you can customize for your flipcharts.
Objects: Tons of objects including phonics sounds, flash activities like spinners and an alphabet jigzaw puzzle, letters (with and without sounds attached).Important Note: You will also find a folder within the Pages folder called "Word Boxes" which contain sample pages (and their components/objects) that use the "container" feature. with this type of activity, students can drag letters only into containers that match the letter size/position of tall, small or below. You can use objects in this folder to create your own word shapes for learning basic words. The letters in this folder are set to bounce back if not contained so to get them out of the resource library folder, you will have to double click on them and then the "add to flipchart page" button as they won't drag out otherwise!
This Resource Pack will install in Shared Collections/Elementary/Alphabet

And the Fun Letters Resource Pack
http://www.Prometheanplanet.com/server.php?show=ConResource.14416
This resource pack contains lots and lots of letters!
You will find a folder with letters that make an alphabet train plus folders for each letter of the alphabet with 4 or 5 varieties of that particular letter.
Note:
Please note that some letter sets are complete while others are just fun examples of that letter.
Some of these letters will show up best on a light background due to their origin having "dithered background."
While this Resource Pack is categorized as "Elementary," please know that they may be useful or fun for making fliipcharts for all students and all subjects. This resource pack will install in Shared Collections/Elementary/Alphabet/Letters of the Alphabet

Note: If you've never downloaded a Resource Pack and want to know more about what they are and how to install them, check out this page and watch the short Video Tutorial about it.

I don't use the Wilson Reading Program but we do use the 4 blocks method and in that is making words.
If you put each letter for word building in a separate text box as you build your flipchart page, then you can
manipulate each letter separately as an object to build words. There may be an easier way, but this works for
me. I also put vocabulary words in separate text boxes so that I can move them around and do word sorts with
my first graders as they do them at their seats.

Just click on text box and select font, color, and size you want ( I usually do vowels in a different color)
then write letter, move your curser to a different spot in the page and write the next letter, and so on.
When you are done, you can move them however you need to.

I wonder if this is what you are looking for:
Resource Library > Shared Flipchart Pages > Flipchart Builder > Phonics and Word Tools > Fridge Magnets
