Hello. I've been having slate envy and I was wondering how much they are and if everybody really liked them... Thanks!

I love mine! It makes it really easy to move around the room. Sometimes I will have the kids write on it rather than going to the board other times while they are at the board I can float with it (so I can add or adapt something quickly)
I'm not sure on the cost but I think they are around $450.

Yes - I am a big fan of the Slate!!!
Great to get away from the projector light, wonderful to be among the childen rather than stuck at the front of the room ('guide on the side' rather than 'sage on the stage' idea...) and very empowering to give the Slate to childen so they can contribute and participate without having to move up to the board.
I wouldn't be without a Slate.

I really think that the slate and the votes are key.
The slate allows you to move around the room. It is really nice, because you are not "tethered" to the board. Normally, students know that if you leave the board the lesson stops. So they can act up and de-rail your lesson. Not so with the slate, as you can continue manipulating the board while walking around to the disruption! The slate is also great for any special needs students you might have.
I also think of it as the ultimate voting device. If you don't have a set of Expression, and you want a student to give you a text response, just hand them the slate, and they can write as much as they can think of! [clap]

Ohh! I am a huge fan of the slate! As a former High School teacher(I can not believe I said that) I felt the slate was a much needed behavior management tool for the classroom. In any class have proximity is very important for a teacher to have in the class. This allows the students to know who is in charge of the class. With the slate, as Scott said you are not tethered down to the board and you have the freedom to walk around the room and get a good idea as to what your students are doing or not doing.
I did also use it to pass around, but I found that the students wanted to get up and go to the board instead of using the slate. :p

Love my slate [clap] but I have a question about using the same slate with a different board. We have 4 Activboards in our school and I wanted to use my slate in a different classroom. Is the slate only usable in the original classroom that is was registered to? Or can you register it to multiple boards and use it in different rooms?
I wanted to show my teacher friends who just got their boards put up in there rooms, how cool it is to use the slate and buy their own Activslates but it would NOT work on their boards. Only mine. Any ideas?:confused:

Which Activslate do you have? There have been several models over the years.
Here is a link for you to check:

I don't have it in front of me now but I'm 75% sure it is the Activslate XR? At least in the little window that is what I remember seeing.

Were all of the Activboards purchased at approximately the same time? And if so, do they all have the same version of the software and driver?

My board was purchased about 3 or 4 years ago and then my slate a year later. This is where the slate actually works on. My fellow teachers just purchased their new boards this year and that is what I'm trying to connect to.
Thanks,

If you slate is over a year old, than it is going to be one of the RF Slates, not the one that uses 2.4gh and the Activhub.
So assuming you have the RF Slate, you can register it with different boards. When you turn it on, the board should recognize it.

What board do you have? Does it have a little circle of light or a flame in the top left corner or does it have a black oval? I had the black oval board that I purchased in 2004 and it used a different technology for the slate than the other boards because it was Infrared vs. Radio frequency.

I have a flame inside a dark gray oval. A picture of the flame is attached. Sorry it took me so long to respond but the holiday AND I had a tooth extracted prevented me from getting back. Ouch!!

In Singapore, it cost SGD799. I have try number of time.
It make the life easy for me not to walk back to the board.[clap]
