I think I understand but need more concrete input on this statement. Can someone explain what this means and how it (an Activclassroom) does that?

Lisa, as far as I understand the term "scaffolding" in the UK means the amount of support you give a child when they are working through their success criteria. Does it mean the same in the US?
In my class we have the success criteria on a page of the flipchart (usually at the end) and I will draw children's attention to it as necessary. I suppose using the reveal/magic glasses/rub and reveal would help them concentrate on the points they have to consider.

My understanding of scaffolding is that it is a temporary support for students during the learning sequence.
Just as with scaffolding in a building environment, the support is gradually removed as the student develops increasing proficiency in achieving the task.
Have a look at my flipchart on Naming Esters for an example of gradually removing the prompts as you move through the pages of the flipchart.
In the Activclassroom students would be able to select the page they need to support their learning at that time and work through it singly or in groups, while others in the room are working on different tasks.

Rubrics, links to website activities, an activVote section could be all ways that either a pupil self selects to do or is guided to by the teacher as ways to support/scaffold their learning.
