So I was checking my social networking site, and came across an add for a "Smart Pen" I was very intrigued and so I followed the link to see exactly what it was. From what I could gather, the pen records audio and what you write and then you can capture it onto your computer, think of what could be done with the activboard and this application and hardware.
Here is the web-link watch the movie and I have attached the PDF of the specs.
I will be interested to hear what Mark Robinson has to say about it. ;)

Hi Heather,
I came across the same ad today - I wonder if we are in the same social networking circle:) Looks like an interesting tool. It'll be interesting to see all the ways we can use it w/ the Activclassroom!

Personally, I do not care for the name "Smart Pen", but I'd be curious to see what can be done with it.

hmm, I'll probably get shot now. But I quite like the look of that. I remember taking notes in uni, and when I'm taking notes in meetings I like to write with a proper pen on proper paper. I then usually lose or damage the paper I was writing on. This way I get my notes and a digital backup if I need it.
Not much use from a teachers perspective as far as I can see, this is more for students/meetings.
Also, DAMN that's expensive. I'll stick with my trusted activpen thanks :)

I agree Stuart! It is a bit pricey. But I was just wondering as far as displaying student work and the fact that it can record and then can output to the computer, It would be a great way to look at students problem solving in class. Just a thought. And love the Wall-E too:p

This only works with special dotted paper... There are few things like this pen around... and some that work with normal paper..
...The Pulse smartpen only works with Livescribe™ dot paper.....
It is a bit like printers... You pay for the printer and then perpetually pay through the nose for the ink!
In this case the consumable is the "special" note paper it needs... and so if you are major scribbler like I am.. you could pay another couple of hundred $$ a year just for the paper!
You can also use a slate today to get kids writing on the board... and most any digital phone or kids device can generate text files that they can send to the resource library using Bluetooth...
I also added posts on the blog about using devices to get richer student input to the board:
