We have received 5 Promethean boards at our school. Our principal is going to award the boards to the top 5 proposals on how they would be used in our classrooms. I would like any ideas on what I could put in my proposal on how I can use my board in a 2nd grade inclusion classroom ( low achievers) Any suggestions would be helpful. I have seen many things the boards can do and I would really like to have one, but I have not had a chance to use one yet. Any Help:confused:
Your Principal is a wise person and he/she is doing the right thing in my opinion. By making teachers write proposals and compete for the boards, he/she is making sure that the first teachers using the board will really use it and lead the way for other teachers.
I dont have a canned proposal to share with you but I am sure that some members on this forum will share what they have.
I would include the following in your proposal for all learners specially the low achieving subgroup:
*Visual appeal..animations, pictures, actions, sounds, video
*Active interaction
*Getting the pulse of the class with Activotes and Activexpression
*Not the same old way of getting feedback from students
*Ability to instantly get a handle of overall and individual student cognition
*Sending home or posting online class materials for students and parents to review exactly the way you presented it in class
Hope you Principal will also go a step further by embedding Promethean skill level in formal teacher assessments and mandating minimum competency standards. It would be also great for your Principal to have a annual flipchart contest among teachers and rewarding teachers for the best innovative flipcharts.
Good luck. The fact that you posted for help here shows that you deserve this board.+wave++wave+

I agree with Gautam and Heather!
The year before I started in my school, this is the same way our principal decided to do for our three boards we had purchased. Some of the things people talk about in the proposals that I saw were:
Innovative use of technology (like videos and website integration such as BrainPop)
Collaboration (hey, you started right here...)
Instruction aligned to the curriuculm (did you know you can look up flipcharts by their state standards?)
Amazing new assessments with ActiVotes and ActivExpressionsSorry if I repeated what others have said... I just hope to help someone who posts to the forum before even getting a board! Gotta love seeing that!

I commend you on taking a proactive approach! As a teacher who has had an ACTIVboard for the past 2 school years, with a high-performing group and a group of low performing students, it is an asset to both, but especially motivating to those low performing students. Here are a few positive points to include in your proposal:
* Increased student participation and engagement
* Gets students moving during lesson (great for short attention spans)
* ACTIVotes allow for immediate assessment of student comprehension
* Ability to integrate other types of technology (like video links and websites) make lessons diverse
* ACTIVstudio resources make flps visually appealing to students.
* Board can be used for small groups as well as whole class settings
* Flip chart pages can be printed so students can work while classmate is @ the board.
* If reteaching is needed, you simply open the flp and reinforce or access Planet and download a different one you think may be more suited to your group of students.
* ACTIVotes are a great discussion generator. They let students "argue" their point and get really fired up about learning.
* Allows students to "go" to places they may never visit in real life through ACTIVlessons, videos, etc.
* Students can create individual flp chart pages to combine for a whole class effort, or work as a group to create a flip on a specific subject/topic. This increases their exposure to the tech side of ACTIVboards, and they love becoming knowledgable about some of the tips and tricks the software can perform.
Good luck with your efforts. I hope that you are one of those teachers at your school who gets the much-deserved ACTIVboard. Your students will love it, and so will you. +wave+
Don't forget to log in to the forum regularly for help with any ideas or issues. This is a great help to ACTIVteachers (who eventually become ACTIVaddicts). :D
