Hello, I was hoping that someone could help me help a fellow teacher, I personally have never used the hide choice under actions. This is her issue. ????
I'm having an issue getting my actions to work. My arrow in the corner is not crossed out. What I did was: I chose a rectangle from the pictures collection. I clicked on it and then on properties. I went down to the word actions, I chose hide and clicked ok. the action arrow appears when I hover over the rectangle, however, when I click, nothing happens. The only way i can get it to disappear, is to right click, then left click, then click again.
Thanks so much for your help.[clap][clap]????

Jen,
Is something hiding under the rectangle that she wants to show? I think that's what the hide action is really for, to reveal things that are under it... I have some examples if you are interested (ie, a concentration game), so let me know if you want to take a look at that...
ALSO, make sure she has the rectangle selected as the thing she wants hidden. This could be the issue, and I have been there, where I have told the action button to hide something, and then forgotten to tell it what exactly I want it to hide...

The attached may help - it shows where to set the rectangle. :)

Many of the actions you can choose from have to be "set". Did you choose hide and then tell it what you want to hide? You can make the rectangle the trigger to hide the rectangle, or the rectangle can be used to make a completely different object hide. Hit set and then from the drop down menu select the item you want to be hidden.
I use this action all the time! :)

Since we are on the topic of actions and hiding, I must say that I'm not a fan of using hide.
Because even after the object is hidden when you move your mouse over the area it was in, you still get the action.
I prefer to use a delete action, or move it behind a layer, if you want to bring it back.

If you check the box "Prevent the action when the object is hidden", you won't get the action when you move your mouse over the area where it was, even if the object is hidden. At least that's the way it works on the Mac. I do agree with you though, that if you don't want to bring the object back, it's cleaner to delete it.

And now, maybe you can encourage your colleague to sign up to Planet herself and get the benefits of membership first hand :)

I guess I did kind of misspeak. I don't actual use hide often, but its counterpart, show. I like to tell objects to show other objects. Then I go to the objects I want to be hidden initially and under properties I uncheck the box for "visible". Once the page is saved, those objects are hidden and do not come out until their trigger is hit. I call it not showing all my cards at once. I am the type of person who has a hard time listening to someone talking without reading something they are showing me. I like to reveal my text in increments sometimes so that I know students aren't reading ahead of me.
Hope it works for her!

Hello, I have been pushing the forum on all of my colleagues. I think the forum is such a great resource for teachers. I have gotten a couple of teachers looking at the forum and one who actually posted. I just hope with the new school year they will realize how much fun and information is on the forum.
Thanks to everyone who makes the forum so informative and fun.[clap][clap][clap]{}{}

I love learning something new! [clap]
What is funny, is that I have looked at the check box thousands of times, and never even thought about it. Sometimes the easiest answer is right in front of your face.
It reminds me of a great saying I heard in a training once. RATS! Read All The Screen!
