I have a question about how to drag something over to my tools...I attached a flipchart with a cup with children's names in it....I want the cup over in the tools so that when I need to call on a student, all I have to do it click on it....but when I try to drag it over, I get an error message that "the tray has to be visible" ....what does that mean?

On your tool bar at the top there is an arrow pointing right. Click it to pull the third column of the tool bar out. That column is where a user can add things they want to the tool bar. If it's folded in, you can't put anything on it.

There is an arrow pointing down as well that folds up and down the whole tool bar.

You need to go to Customize and Tool Store. Once you are in there you can drag things back off the tool bar.

Now I find out that I can roll up the toolbar!
For months I've been moving it around the board!!!!

I have quite a bit on my tool bar so I sometimes put action objects on my pages that turn on/off the pen or other tools I'm going to use on the page so that I can keep the tool bar rolled up. If I need something it only takes a sec to roll it down, use it, and roll it back up. I think it can be a little distracting sometimes. :)

Here's a tip!

Did you know that you can add new icons/tools to the "flipchart toolbar?" (You know, the one with the left and right arrows that's on the side of the flipchart)

You can add any tools there such as the pen, highlighter, eraser, and arrow (selector tool). That way if your floating toolbar is rolled up you can have easy access to your most common tools without having to roll the tool palette back down.

Just go the Activstudio menu and choose Customize>Tool Store and drag the tools you need over there onto the side bar.

It's not obvious that this capability if there but it is and it can be quite helpful if your flipchart page is full of stuff and you need to have the tool bar out of the way!

I had no idea. Thanks for the tip. That one could be very useful.

Lisa,

This is a great tip! I love that fact... I keep my properties button over there, so I can just click on an object and then click the button and edit the properties!

Also, sometimes when I do presentations for other teachers, I put the Next Page and Previous Page buttons over there so that I can keep my Task Bar rolled up, and that's nice as well...

There is also an option in Studio Settings-toolbars-Main Toolbar.
I like to set mine to "dock and roll up." This allows me to fling the main toolbar to the side of the page and it "docks" on the side and rolls up automatically.

That is way cool! But.... I want my activote icon there, because the toolbar can really get in the way. I cannot get the activote icon to drag over to the flipchart toolstrip. I am using a Mac. Is this option not available for the Activotes?

I was also wondering about this, as I couldn't get it to work on the Mac either.

Well, it didn't work for me, either. Not sure what the reasoning is for this (if indeed there is a reason!)

It works on the PC, I have no idea why it won't go to the flipchart toolstrip on the Mac.

I love having my actiVote on that side toolstrip. So easy to utilize & quick. I hadn't thought about bringing the properties icon over, great idea!

Thanks, Dana! Are there any other things that you keep over there that might be worth sharing?
