Hi,
Will be getting an ActivBoard next year and wondering how important an ActivTablet would be to successfully plan lessons? Any experience with the ActivTablet that you can share would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Troy

It USED to be an advantage with the Activtablet in that if it was installed correctly with the right drivers, the little message would disappear from your flipchart pages. I don't think Activstudio has that any more now.
So, the advantages of the Activtablet (in my opinion) are:
the ability to have access to a pen during development. This is not only great for freehand drawing (which is not easy to do with a mouse or trackpad) but especially when you need to use the camera in freehand mode. I absolutely LOVE that.
the ability to have access to the handwriting recognition tool which is not functional when not attached to an Activboard. However, I don't really use that much when I am developing but it is nice to try it out and practice.
have access to the fraction maker tool, which obviously allows you to create fractions in a simple way.
That's what I can think of!

Last year, I had an ActivTablet, and I loved it! Like Lisa said, when the drivers are installed, it is nice because it is just like having a slate in your house (I say slate, since the slate has no projection on it). If you get the chance to use it, I think you will really enjoy it, as it allows you to use all the tools that you get with the Board (again, just like Lisa said)! It is great to have it at home while you are planning.
This year, I am being nice and sharing it !

It's super nice to use when creating flipcharts at home. Every teacher that has one in my area always has very positive things to say about using it! I think it encourages teachers to create flipcharts at home.

I agree, there are definately somethings that are more easily done while attached to the board. The activtablet basically gives you board functionality without the board.
I love it for planning lessons at home!

I have a tablet and I really like it. It does make it easier to trace around things and to generally do things that are only possible with the board. I know the TLCs have their very own board at home  (jealous) but most of us have to wing it from the house! :)
