????Since we are getting so close to the end of the school year, I always like to mix up the days and play connect four with my kids (as a reward for holding it together). Does anyone have a suggestion on how to make a connect four game template?

In the Background Library's Games folder, you should find a connect 4 background.

I went ahead and found it, added 10 red and 10 black circles on it and saved it for you.

Hope this is what you had in mind!

Here's an amended version for which you can use the fill tool to change the color of the circles.

Wow! This is exactly what I keep telling everyone I meet is so great about the Planet! I love the way people are so supportive of each other and willing to share their hard work. A simple ask for some help and three kind people have uploaded examples!

Brilliant,[clap][clap][clap]

Thanks everyone!! I can't wait for my class to play the games. I have to agree that this is one (of many) reason why I love Promethean!! You all ROCK!!!

Lisa I was checking out the board you made and it was great. My only concern is that I have some short kids this year and I was trying to figure out how to move the black circle to the bottom (opposite side) of the board. I can't seem to turn off the drag a copy so I can move it. Any suggestions??

Right click (Control Click on the Mac) on the black circle, then go to Edit>Drag a Copy and turn it off.

There is also an Activtip that goes over how to use Drag a Copy.

Scott,
I tired turning it off and no luck. The black circle will move one copy but leave the original up on the top of the page. Help???

Okay, I think I figured it out.

On Lisa's first flipchart, the dots are not set to drag a copy. She just has 10 dots stacked on top of each other. So if you drag a box around the black dots, you should be able to move all of them to a new location. You just have to drag that box to select them all, or else you will moving only the one on top. Also make sure that Drag a Copy is turned off.

Let us know if that works.

Thanks Scott, I was able to move the circles. If I only had tall kids this year there would not have been an issue but I am greatful to everyone who helped me out!! +wave+:D

Happy we got it working for you.

For your shorter students, have you checked out the Activwand?

cmjurgen

Yep I have (had) a wand. I let a friend use it since she teaches first grade. My guys prefered the pens, I guess they felt more grown up. You know those 5th grades. Thanks again!!

I guess Harry Potter didn't rup off on those boys! :D:D

You could also go with tactic #2. The boys can choose the Activwand or ActivHigh Heels!:rolleyes:

You're right, Scott. I used a Mac and didn't have drag a copy as an option so there ARE indeed 10 of each of them (but I did use the "align complete" option to get them aligned so that they LOOK like they are doing "drag a copy.")

Manually placing or filling a counter in the connect four games can give rise to valuable discussion and you also have undo options!:)

Attached is a flash version for those situations where you really can't reach the top of the board. You just click somewhere on the row and it drops in place. Also useful if you haven't got a partner to play with:(

Really nice flash! Especially nice for those who want to play against the computer!

You should submit this to Planet!

Lisa,

You mentioned that you used a Mac and did not have Drag a Copy. If you are on 3.6, you should have that feature.

LisaD

I've got 3.6 build 117 on Mac. If it's there, I cannot find it. I know that if someone builds a flipchart on PC that USES drag a copy, it works on my Mac, but I don't know how to make it on a Mac.

That would be great if you can show me how!!!

Hi Lisa,

It is in the same place as on the PC. Right click on the object and there will be an option to 'drag a copy' towards the bottom of the right click menu!

Janice

And in Studio... right click on the object and Drag a Copy is under Edit.

Dang! You're right! Maybe I was expecting it to be a properties option, not a right click thing!

You know, I swear I looked and never saw it. But it's there now!

I'm also a Mac user, and I've been wondering about this When I right-click on an object, Drag a Copy is grayed out (in both Presentation and Design modes) unless I go into Preferences and uncheck Prevent Drag a Copy in the Design Mode panel. Then I can access Drag a Copy in both Presentation and Design Modes. As soon as I check Prevent Drag a Copy again, it's unavailable in both modes again.

I'm running 3.6 Build 117 in OS10.4.11. Has anyone else noticed this?

Thanks!

I also find that if you go to design mode, you can move drag a copy objects where you want on the page, save it, then go back to presentation mode. It has worked for me on several of my flipcharts, it might work with the one you are discussing.
Hope this helps.

Daniel,
Great flipchart!! Thanks for sharing, you are all so awesome. Now, if I could just win the darn game, hopefully my first graders will be better at it than I am :)

Thanks Cheryl. I know I can move an object by picking it up by the "Move Freely" handle, it just seems like this isn't behaving like it ought to.

June,

You want to keep that "Prevent Drag a Copy" unchecked.

Normally you would want it checked, but there is a bug, that when you check it, it won't allow Drag a Copy on either Design or Presentation Mode.

I just learned about it 2 weeks ago. It is know and should be fixed in the next update.

Thanks!

I am officially the crazy one now! I literally was away from my computer all weekend, and when I came back, I, of course, had to check out every version of Connect Four in this thread! Amazing job, everyone! I am officially upset I wasn't here this weekend to play with everyone (humn, now I wonder the logistics of actually doing that??)!

I am in the process of compiling the 4 different versions of the Connect 4 game into one flipchart and will post this on Planet's flipchart resources so everyone can find them. I will list in the page notes who contributed which page as well as the description on Planet.

I hope this is ok for everyone. I just don't want all this good work to "fade away" when this post gets old!

Will send you all the "link" when I get it live!

Ok, I have it live now on the US Planet. I will see about getting it live on the UK site.

Connect 4 Options
This flipchart contains four different versions of the game Connect 4. Each page was contributed via our forum with different options to play the game.

Lisa Dubernard: submitted game with red and black circles to move on the Connect 4 background.
Dan Bunker: submitted a great flash version of the game that shorter students can easily access and it allows someone to play against the computer or against each other.
blacanni: submitted an interesting version using actions that reveal a clock allowing someone to use the game to test students' knowledge of telling time.
Cappi: submitted a version that uses the "fill tool." Thanks everyone for your great ideas!

The "Games" theme in June's Seasonal Selections is now live!

There you will find tons of flipcharts that use games (either templates or completed games). You will also find several links to websites that you may find fun to play games or make them!

If you don't see a game in there that you know exists, let me know and I'll add it.

If you have a game you want to submit, please do and I will add it to the list!

Have fun!:D
