I have been wanting to do this for a while and would love to know how... When playing a movie or clip to the class in something other than Promethean I was wondering if I could open another screen and work on my computer / promethean flipchart while the movie is running full screen. I was thinking of having like two screens running from the same computer. Is it possible?

Don't know if this is any help, Dawson:

A search for 'monitor' brought it up.

One the Windows side, depending on your video settings and what program you use, if you view a movie in a window on your screen, it is projected full screen. Thus you could still work on other projects on your laptop screen, so long as the movie was not minimized.

Our technology teacher does this, and I must say I don't really get it... Someone really needs to write out some detailed directions, because I confuse easily!

Detailed instructions are tricky, Ben, because the way to do this will vary according to which graphics card/software is installed on a particular machine and the 'dual screen' set up will generally be different according to different computers.

Having said that, a right click on the desktop > properties (or personalise) > display settings (on my current machine) will allow me to fiddle about with dual monitors.

Here's what I do:

Power up laptop
Plug cables for board in
Right click on "promethean icon" in bottom left of screen and "connect" (I have serial connections, USB connections may not have to do this)
Right-clcik somewhere on the desktop, choose "Graphic options...", then "Output to..." then "monitor".
The display should now be up on the IWB.

Then

right click on the desktop (on the IWB), click "Graphic options...", then "output to..." then "extended Desktop".

The display then "stretches from the IWB to the Laptop screen. I can change my display to the resolution I want on the laptop now, leaving the IWB as 800x600 (rubbish)

I right click on the Promethean icon on thebottom right agaion, and choose "calibrate". I get the option to calibrate screen 1 (this is the IWB) My cursor has vanished, so I just select "yes" as it's the default. I calibrate the IWB.

All is now well.

I open up registers, email, etc and drag them to the laptop screen. I open ACTIVstudio and it opens on the IWB with work on for the kids to do while I do registers etc.

NOTE: I do the messing with the "output to..." options as I want the IWB, whichj is on the left of my compuetr to be the main screen. I cxan drag things from here...to the right, onto my laptop which is on the rightg (natural).

Hope this is clear as mud.
