Hello,
I'm trying to create videos for my students during the classroom sessions and as individual lessons pre-recorded for online viewing. I can use either the Activ recorder or Camtasia Studio to record the screen and the audio. However, if I use the built in microphone on the laptop, i get feedback from the laptop in the form of a clicking sound. I can eliminate the clicking with a USB microphone headset when I am recording lessons at home. However, I would like to be able to use the wireless microphone system that came with the Promethean board. I use the wireless mic in the classroom and wanted to let the students use the microphone as well to make sure that we got a good audio quality. I tried using an RCA connector to take the feed out of the wireless mic access point but it doesn't seem to be sending out an audio feed.
Is there a way to take an output from the wireless mic into my laptop so that I can get a good quality audio file recording while in the classroom?
Thanks,
LBogan ????

Hi,
It could well be sending out a feed from the amplifier, you may have to ensure that the laptop is receiving from the Line In, not the microphone. Try looking in Control Panel for Audio settings.

Peter,
Is there a way to hook that wireless microphone into the computer? I don't have that system in my school, but I remember seeing (and playing with) it in Sarasota, and I am not sure where it would fit plugging into my laptop...

Scott,
This last post was both confusing and confusing...

ben,
scott is tallking about ActivSound.
You can get it from Logical Choice the reseller.
It consistes of these pod like wireless microphones which the teacher can wear around his/her neck or pass it to students when students want to talk.
You can get more info on this on Logical Choice website.

Aha! I know what you are talking about now, and I can see what Scott's last post meant. Does anyone know if that microphone will work directly with the laptop, or does it work only with ActivSound's speakers? Logical Choice is currently not the reseller for our area, but I will check out their website.
Thanks,
~Ben
It will work with any computer if the hardware associated with it is also installed.

THANKS Gautam!
Sounds good, and it should work for LBogan's video needs. I just remember that the system worked through the box on the wall, and not through my computer, but good to know that it CAN work through the computer, as long as you have the right software!
~Ben
no software needed.
The Activsound module is a box/amplifier hardware. It connects to a receiver. It has a connector that connects to the speaker input of a computer.

Ben,
I'm not sure if we have photos of Activsound up on the Promethean Website yet. But you can check out Audio Enhancement, as we have partnered with them for Activsound.

Scott,
I think I remember the Audio Enhancement's unit from Sarasota, but I can't remember seeing the "box," so I didn't know it could actually be hooked up to the computer, I thought it just hooked up to the wall for the speakers.

There is a box. It hooks up to the computer (It can also have input for MP3 and other media), then to the speakers. There is also a wireless receiver that hooks into the box.

This may help, I searche for ACTIVsound on PrometheeanWorld and came up with this brochure...
...I am really interested in this, as it looks like there are speakers in the ceiling (or anywhere, I suppose). As I am Hearing Impaired, this may help me in the classroom. At present, hearing aids only serve to amplify ALL the noise the kids are making, along with the hum of the projector above my head, etc.
However, if anyone knows of any other system that would help a HI teacher hear the kids in the classroom (there are a lot of resources to help a HI student hear the teacher) then I would be grateful.
Thanks

Hello Everyone,
Thanks for all the input. I was able to get some assistance from various people to get this setup and working properly. I was connecting a cable wrong from my microphone receiver. I found the vendor's website for the microphone receiver. I have the FrontRow Pro 930R and found the user manual at http://www.gofrontrow.com/classroom%20amplification/userGuides.asp.
I connected my cable to the AUX output port instead of the input port. The computer then recognized that I had a microphone and the volume feed increased into the laptop which made it easier to record in Camtasia and through ActivStudio's built in recorder. I also noticed in the user manual that the AUX output jack (port 14 in the manual) can be used to rebroadcast to personal FM Receivers. This should help with those that are hearing impaired if there are also personal FM devices in the room used in conjunction with the wireless microphone receiver. I have speakers in the ceiling and now I can walk around the room with my wireless microphone, use the AUX output to my computer microphone input, and record the sessions with clear audio to my video. You can see where I stitched several video segments together with videos before using the AUX port and with the AUX port at Teacher Tube. I have a student recording a lesson. The first portion is without the correct connection and then the other portions are either with or without the connection. http://www.teachertube.com/view_video.php?viewkey=7bb4ef64da2ecdabd07f
Be careful. If you turn your speakers up too high for the first few minutes, you will get quite a surprise when the increased volume hits as I used the AUX port correctly.
Again, thanks for all your help.
Lynn
