I think that this have been brought up before but I think that it needs to be addressed again.
As we leave for the summer journeys, some longer then others, we need to consider the friend that is in our classroom, the one that is there for us to help us carry out our instructions day, after day. The one that engages our students, and helps us manage our classroom. And transforms us into teaching giants. :p Yes, I mean our Activboard, and along with that, out votes, slates, wand, and so on.
The time has come to consider backing up our resources that we have made, both from the library, and the flipcharts that we have created. It would be an awful shame to come back to school and find that they have re-imaged the computer and everything is gone. :(
So this is just a reminder to protect your precious media.
If there are any other end of the year stuff please share. :D

As the kids say, "True-that!":D
I am taking my slate and wand with me. The votes get turned into the Media Center.
And I use my external harddrive to make a duplicate copy of my work and all of the awesome resource packs downloaded throughout the year.

Heather - Great point.
One cheap and easy way to make sure your Activboard is safe over the summer. Go buy a cheap white Full or Queen size sheet. Then use it to cover up your board. You can even write on the sheet "Do not remove or write on this board".

I LOVE that idea[clap] I was thinking....hmmmm... wonder if they will let me take it home so I know my baby will be safe!

If you get the "fitted" type sheet, they have built in "grippers" to stay put!

OK so i am not the only crazy one... my co-worker and I were talking about storing our boards... I thought of that clear plastic fabric you can get a Wal Mart that would be water proof or rather wax proof. But I love the fitted sheet idea. I even thought of cutting the corners off a large box, but that would call attention. We are taking down the projectors and storing them. I am taking my laptop home to work on stuff for our new reading series we will be required to use next year.
Are we obsessive or what???

That's an awesome suggested. I've taught with an ACTIVboard for 8 years & wished I had known that then. In the summer, the janitors always wax the floors (tile) or shampoo the carpet. We always just tape butcher paper around our board. But when we had returned, the paper had fallen b/c the tape had came unstuck from the wall due from the air turned off for the summer.
A fitted sheet is the perfect solution!
Thanks,
Donna

Does anyone else have the Activ +2 systems with the orange projectors? Any thoughts on what to do with them over the summer so they don't accidentally "walk" away?
Loving the fitted sheet idea (like everyone else)... Great "Last Day of School" activity with your class to decorate the sheet to scare people away from messing with the Board, right?

I have a +2, and I have not had that problem. Just put the remote away, they are about useless with out the remote!:p
I also have the ACTIVboard with the orange projector. Our techs have informed us that they truly are useless without the remote control. Over the summer break, as with Christmas and Easter breaks, I will cover the board with a sheet, turn the projector arm so it's flush against the wall, and slide a pillow case over the projector to prevent excess dust from getting into the equipment. The main problem that I experienced last summer was with my screen. Since the projector arm was turned against the wall, it seemed the screen that was projected slipped into a groove and (even with playing around with my keystone) I could not resolve the problem without the technician coming in and fixing it. He indicated that the problem happens fairly often. I wanted to know if anyone else has had the same problem. I will be EXTRA careful when I turn my projector around this time.
Make sure the orange short range projector with the AB+2 has a fresh battery. This powers the anti-theft alarm.
Not saying that this is fool proof security, but at least it would emit a high pitch audible alarm in case of being moved.
Of course you have to activate the alarm with your chosen secret code.

It sounds like to me we can all go to "Big Lots buy a twin sheet set, and have a use for the whole set. :p

Ben - I say that you go with the fitted sheet on the board and a pillow case on the projector! :)

To be even safer, I use a fitted full mattress pad. It has a bit more protection. :-/

Big Lots / Wal Mart is absolutely going to love me! We have 20 boards, so buying sheets is going to be an absolute thrill! Great idea about the pillow cases for the projectors! Thanks all for sharing.[clap]

Maybe your students' parents will have some spare fitted sheets that aren't using anymore.
I certainly had a pile of Lion King and Barbie sets that my kids refuse to let me put on their beds anymore!
Can't understand why an 18 year old doesn't like Lion King! :D

Neither can I! I am a little older than that, and I still love the Lion King!
I will have to ask, that is a much better idea than just running out and getting the sheets! Thanks for sharing that idea, Lisa!

On a similar note, my room is used during exams to accommodate student's with disabilities, so I get shifted out. During the recent exams, the invigilators STUCK a clock onto my IWB with blu tac, which left a nasty greasy mark when I took it down.
I wrote a little note, stuck it next to the IWB stating that I didn't want anything sticking to it. A helpful chief invigilator decided my message was too small, wrote a similar note on large A2 paper and SELLOTAPED it to the board!
Is it me?

You know it's not you Craig. I've seen schools where they have A4 sheets with big bold letters saying 'Do not write on this board' on BOTH sides of the board and still poeple write on the board with a marker.

Like exam papers which used to say "There is nothing written on this page" on the last few pages, when there blatently is!

I like the sheet idea.
Lisa - I would love Lion King sheets on my Activboard! I just sold some old sheets at a garage sale - should have saved them for my board!

I may still have a raggedy set with Hercules on them I could save for you. (Ah...the joys of little boys!) Is he related to Prometheus?

I just finished putting bright pink paper on BOTH sides of my board. DO NOT WRITE ON THIS BOARD....THIS IS NOT A DRY ERASE BOARD. Mine will be stored in the library for the summer so hopefully I will be okay...
I do have a question.. should I leave the cord plugged into the back of the board. You have no idea how many cords I find missing when I come back... will it hurt anything if I remove them?
Thanks!

No, it won't hurt anything if you unplug and/or remove the cords.

That is what I am worried about...........forgetting! :o I have a drawer with my Promethean stuff in it. I will probably put them in there!

AND if you can, lock the drawer so no one accidently walks away with them... Believe it or not, that has been known to happen!
