+wave+ ???? I have searched the forums and can't find what I am looking for... so I am asking for some help. My co-worker and I are doing a teleconferencing virtual field trip to the New Jersey Aquarium to feed sharks and we made a flipchart to go with the information they sent us. We wanted our second graders to research a shark, but we want specific information. I know I read that you can include everything with the flipchart... I just can't seem to figure out how to put the recording sheet with the page without placing the page on a flipchart. I have only had my ActivBoard since January, so I am still working through the ins and outs of the tools.

Is the recording sheet a pdf or part of a website?

Sounds like you want a link to the file in your flipchart page, but not embedded.

Scott,

Technical question here!

Why would you link to it without embedding it? Doesn't embedding really help out when you move things to different folders, etc, which I do about once a week, so the link will always be live, no matter where you move things. Also, let's say you post it to the Planet (PLEASE DO THIS! THIS LESSON REALLY SOUNDS AWESOME!), won't it really need to be embedded?

I think Scott probably means that as there will be multiple answers/inputs to the "sheet" they would need to be saved separately:confused::confused:

So embedded initially - yes - but then as each student opens it up they need to save the "filled in" form as a separate file.....+wave+

Well thats my understanding!! [clap]

Ok, so I will include both of these.... but remember this is just a working copy for us for now... the pages are not in any special order or it is not complete. Our VFT to the New Jersey Aqu. is May 14th so we will be working on this until then.

I want to know how to do everything... lol, which is a problem, because like I said before, I only started working on this in January.

I want the recording sheet to go with page 5 (at least I think it is page 5). I want to keep everything together.

My class started working the flipchart this morning and already I see a problem on the Fact/Myth page.

Thanks for any help... I am generally pretty good a figurin' out stuff, but this has stumped me.

BTW... I LOVE MY ACTIVBOARD!!! Sure makes lesson planning easy, and my kids love it. We just got the boards and document handlers in January... I so want ActiVotes, speakers, wand... like I said I want the whole package now.

Hi Janet,

To put your file within your flipchart follow these steps:

1- Right click and insert office file link.
2- Find your recording sheet (word doc.)
3-Save it as a text or image and then click Store File in Flipchart to ensure that it is embedded into your flipchart.

OR you could have an image of a shark to open your file:
1- On your shark image, double-click and your object edit box appear.
2- Click on the red tick (red check)
3- Choose ACTIONS
4- Scroll down to set it to open embedded document or file.
5- Click set and find your file (spreadsheet) and click ok

And now, you are all set!

:-/Donna

BTW, your flipchart looks like it will be awesome!

Janet,

This is absolutely amazing! I love the thoughts behind this, and can't wait to see it when its done.

Here is my question about the recording sheet: Do you want one per student, or do you want it to pop open when they click on an icon? What are you looking the software to do with the word document? That will be able to help better direct you with what to do next!

Love the cover page!

It looks great. I'm very impressed with what you have accomplished in the short time. You have also hit on one of the best assets of the ACTIVboard, the community of people that help each other out. in the forum. I didn't mess with attaching the document since Donna gave the directions. I did do a couple of other little things. Feel free to ignore all of it but I was just trying to help.

I put some more blue behind the sharks so the green words didn't peak through. I added a ruler action to get that out a little easier than going to power tools. I attached the action for opening the website to the shark instead of having the website text on the page. I also added restrictions to your graph boxes so they wouldn't move all over and would only stretch. The directions for all of these things are around the forum and on Promethean Learning but I know it's hard to take it all in at once.

Good Luck with your trip. :-)

Thanks Everyone! That was fun... It is buried on the page, I am beginning to think I may get thd hang of this yet! I am also working on a flipchart to go with the book Charlotte's Web. I have tried to do something with groups of three chapters. This is very addicting.{}

Good luck with the Charlotte's Web flipchart! I have tried to work with whole books a few times, but tend to end up with 100-200 page flipcharts, and that isn't helpful to anyone!

Keep on posting to the forum, because we would love to hear what's going on in Alabama!

Fyi,

There are already three (that I can find) flipcharts about Charlotte's Web that have been submitted.

Charlotte's Web
http://www.Prometheanplanet.com/us/server/show/ConResource.10500
This flipchart is a literature unit based on Charlotte's Web by E.B. White that integrates reading skills, mathematics, and science.

Charlotte's Web Activities
http://www.Prometheanplanet.com/us/server/show/ConResource.7743
If your class is reading Charlotte's Web, you may want to download this flipchart filled with activities to do with your students. The flipchart contains a character match up game, an animal mix-up game, a spider KWL chart, a Quick Quiz about the story and a vocabulary game. Enjoy!

Charlotte's Web Play
http://www.Prometheanplanet.com/us/server/show/ConResource.7744
This flipchart contains a play for your students to act out in whole group based on the novel, Charlotte's Web. Try using a microphone and the sound recorder feature to record your students for parents' night! Play adaptation by Donna J. Fuller, 2nd grade teacher of Alta Murrieta School.

Additionally, if you search for the keyword "spider" or "spiders" you will find other supporting lessons that you may want to use!

You could always download these and modify them as you need! Could save you some time (or just get ideas!)

Thanks Lisa, I have them and we have worked through them in class. Searching for flipcharts was the first thing I learned. When our technology money came available my co-worker and I started learning the ins and outs of this website. I have lots of saved flipcharts on a jump drive in folders as to when I would use them. I have even collected PP and converted them to flipcharts. Like I mentioned before I LOVE MY ACTIVBOARD! and I have had a SmartBoard before and did not love it nearly as much.

Just so you know, the reason I mentioned that it should not be embedded was because the first question was how to link to a file without placing it on the flipchart page.

I agree with Ben, unless you have a specific reason why, I always think it is a good idea to embed your files.

AHA! I see now! I think what the person meant was they didn't want the actual "image" of the paper on the page... I don't really know if that made any sense, but it did in my head.

Please post the Charlotte's Web flipchart here, too! I'd love to see it.

Have you found the already made flipchart resources from Promethean Planet -- there are many flipcharts already made you can use and download. I suggest it because you'll get ideas from looking at other flipcharts. When I check out a new flipchart, I like to open the Page Selector and flip through pages. Click on images and text and see what properties have been assigned. If you are using AS 3.6, toggle between Design and Presentation mode. Check out page notes, too!
In short, picking apart other people's flipcharts can give you both technical and lesson planning ideas.

You might also want to take the Level 1 class at PrometheanLearning.com; it's free and a great review of some of the basics.

Cheers,
Barbara
