We thought it was about time that all you Maths teachers received a glowing push on Planet...so here it is!

The Planet UK/International site has just published a feature on the home page on how to use the whiteboard to teach Maths lessons, titled Maths marvellous. (http://www.prometheanplanet.com/uk/server/show/nav.5975)

We've worked with our TLA (Teaching & Learning Advisor), Chris Stone, who used to be a Maths teacher prior to joining Promethean, to come up with his top tips for using the Activboard and Activsoftware in a Maths class.
As well as these tips there are also:

Four flipcharts covering a range of topics from symmetry to coordinates, all with integrated voting opportunities.
Links to other Maths flipcharts from the Planet community.
Links to our Maths 'Featured Teachers'.It would be interesting to hear any feedback from you. +wave+

Kudos to Chris Stone! I love this article. As a former Algebra 1 teacher, I could have used all of those tips when I first had my board. What would be really cool would be to link activtips to each of the points that he brings up to show him or someone using that technique in the classroom.

For me, I am now a Geometry teacher, which is not too far from Algebra, and I use many of the same tips and ideas that Chris mentions in this article. It has certainly made me a more proficient teacher in the classroom I also feel that it has made the achievement gap come closer together.

Some of the ideas that Chris mentions, like Use colour and images, I use the resource library for everything, and for clarifying what the point is that I am trying to make, I use color and especially the highlighter tool to really pick apart the diagram.

His comment on screenshots, bravo! I can not express how helpful that third column is to a math teacher. I find that I start to see that I am drawing or using the same type of figure through out a lesson, I pull it over in to my third column. Right now, we are studying the chapter on circles, and as easy as it is to draw a circle, I find that by having the circle in my third column to pull out is very handy+wave++wave+ I encourage all math teachers to read this and explore the flipcharts that have been posted. The link I put in the last post should work. The one at the top of the page was for the old site. See if mine doesn't work for you.

I tried again on the weekend, initially without success, using Mozilla Firefox. I then changed to Internet Explorer and accessed the sites without problem. So it appears to be a browser problem and not a Promethean one...

On another thread, June Patton suggested that I clear my cookies in Firefox. That solved the problem!
