As I am coming to the end of the school year, I am wondering about the resources that I have collected throughout the school year. The resources have unpacked into the shared library. So my question is this can I pack my resources as a whole so that the possibility that I do either get a new computer or the computer is reimaged, I can unpack them on the new computer?

That's a great question. And I don't know the answer but can give you a couple of thoughts!

1) There should be a folder on your computer called "ACTIV Software" In it should be your complete Resource Library (the Shared one). You could back that up on an external hard drive and then copy the contents to the same folder on your new hard drive. (My folder is just under 2GB's so you'll need to have a pretty good size drive.)

2)Theoretically, you could use the Resource Manager to create one humongous Resource Pack. Move that file to your new computer and install it there. but I've never done that myself and I don't know if it will be any easier or smaller than suggestion number one.

Some folks may opt to install the Resource Packs in the My Resources Folder (I think the folder is called "Activstudio3" on the PC) and leave the Shared Resource library intact in case of a crash (or new machine.) The My Resources would likely be much smaller.

But these are just some opinions. I'm sure others may chime in with other ideas!

I am in the process of transferring all of my documents and programs from my old laptop onto a new laptop. I copied all of my shared folders to my 8GB travel drive and moved them onto my new computer. It worked like a charm clwn and EVERYTHING was right where it was supposed to be! I've also helped several other teachers at our school who were getting new computers transfer all of their resources too.

Another investment you may wish to do is get a portable hard drive... The prices for these have come down significantly since they were first developed... I still have my traditional 3-5 flash drives that I carry with me everywhere I go (don't ask why, becaue I don't even know anymore), but I also have a portable hard drive, and I love it! Holds a WICKED amount of things...

I just ordered a 500GB external drive and it should be arriving any day now. Do I plan on making that many flipcharts???;)
