View Full Version : Allocating devices with Build 114

I recently updated to build 114 and now suddenly I can't allocate devices anymore! The problem is similar to one I had before build 96. That is, the students go to register the devices with the three digit code and the name on the board will go green and then revert to red. Some votes will stay green but the majority revert.

This is such a nice thing to be able to do, it's hard to go back!

I use a MacBook.
OS 10.4.11
My votes are the over a year old so I dont' think they're the 2.4 ones mentioned.

I did have to uninstall the build 114 since I'm a language teacher and it does crazy things to accent marks too, even with the uninstall the allocating no longer works.

HELP!

Hi Michelle --

I'm not sure this will fix the allocate problem, but the first thing to check is that Build 114 is really gone. The Uninstall routine doesn't seem to really do anything. When I uninstalled it I had to move the whole folder to the trash in order to get rid of it. The problem I had with Build 114 was that it messes up symbols just like it messes up accents. Since I'm a math teacher, that wasn't going to work for me.

If that doesn't fix it, you may want to try reinstalling the old driver. I noticed that when I installed Build 114, using the votes crashed Activstudio with the old driver, and everything worked fine with the new driver (the one that came with the download). So, it seems that that new driver affects the votes in some way, and maybe going back to the old driver would solve the problem. I use the votes in anonymous mode, so I haven't seen the problem that you're describing. I'm also running Activstudio on an Intel Mac with OS 10.4.11.

Hi June,

It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who had to uninstall.

Can you tell me how to know if I've really gotten rid of the build 114? It does say that I have PE 3.0 96. Is it possible that 114 is lurking somewhere too?

I did reinstall the old driver too in hopes that that would fix it. Sadly, no.

Do you know if the accent/symbol problem is being addressed? I called tech support and they said they would get back to me. I don't see anything about this except in one French post.

Hi Michelle --

The Activstudio files are in Applications/Promethean/Activstudio3. Make sure you only have one folder with that name in the Promethean directory. If you had to do a fresh installation of Build 96, you're probably OK. When you reinstalled the driver, if you put the new one in the trash before you reinstalled the old one, the remnants of that one should be gone too. It doesn't hurt to empty the trash too.

The problem is mentioned in two threads:

http://www.Prometheanplanet.com/common/html/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=5254 and
http://www.Prometheanplanet.com/common/html/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=5215

I've posted to both of them, so that' how I know. Other people are experiencing the same problem though.

I'm really hoping that they fix it. I know that I've reported it to several people.

Hi June,

Thank you for your help. I had cleared out the build 114 but the problem is still there. I'm going to try uninstalling again to see if I just did it wrong.

I really appreciate your help and time.

Hi magistra

I had similar problems but all I did was re-register the devices first before allocating them again and it worked.
