I've copied this part of a previous thread so that we have a new thread dealing with Grid designer and Coordinates so that any question/ideas/resources etc on this topic appear in one thread for other to easily pick up on.
If you ask a new question/ post a new idea on a fresh aspect of ACTIVstudio can you start it as a new thread so we keep threads on one topic as much as possible. Hope this makes sense.

I have a question about the grid designer. Is there anyway to create my own coordinate plane using the grid designer? (x,y, and a labled scale) I would love apprecciate any suggestions on how I could expediate my graphing.

The grid designer (I believe) only includes lines but not labels. I think it would be best to design it as a background instead.

There are already loads of coordinate planes backgrounds in the resource library (see attachment.)

Plus when I searched the submitted flipcharts, I saw 24 lessons come up with the keywords "coordinate plane" so perhaps you can use some pages from there. (I searched on the US Planet)

You should be able to save any of these flipchart pages from these flipcharts as individual flipchart page resources in your My Flipchart pages. This way the resource can include backgrounds, grids, texts and anything.

Hope this helps.

Rob,

At the recent Activ '08 Conference in Sarasota, Mike Evans of Forsyth County, GA presented amazingly on this very subject. Check out his website at http://www.forsyth.k12.ga.us/ActivMath. Check out his Conference presentation and his Graphing one... Hope this helps!

Here's a useful flipchart from Nigel Pearce for helping to teach coordinates.

I agree! I want something that would allow me to enter the x & y scale, and put labels on the graph for me. This would be a HUGE time-saver, and it wouldn't be a background that is unchangeable. I would love this feature to become a new tool!

Perhaps I've missed something, but is there a way to save the grid I created using grid designer into My Resource Library

Yes there is,

Have the resource library open at the my grids folder or one of its subfolders
then right click on the page, choose add to library, & the grid sub menu & bobs your uncle!

Oh no - those links won't work for me! Has anyone else succeeded in downloading those flps?
Maybe it's that Antipodean bug again...

Check out the Activ08 section of Planet. I know his original presentation was in the Sarasota flipchart collection. If not, feel free to email me, and I can email them to you!

I just visited the website. If I click on the links, I get an error message, as they are .flp files and the browser doesn't know what to do with them. But when I right-click, I can then Save Link As ... and download them.

Does anyone use the Add Grid / Hide Grid icons on their tool bar? I can't get the Add Grid to work. I still need to go into Properties or Grid Designer to make it visible. I'm on v1.3
