When I scan images (usually worksheet pages) at 600 dpi I save them as PDF files. When I try to insert them as objects into flipcharts the images lose tons of clarity, so much that the images are unreadable. What am I doing wrong?

I have attached the PDF and a flip with the PDF imported.

If you're just using individual images from a page, you could try zooming in to 250-300%, and then taking a picture of the image that you want (either with the Activstudio camera or the Acrobat camera). Then, when you paste the image into Activstudio, resize the image back to the size you want, and it should be very clear. Obviously, this won't work so well if you want the whole page of the pdf. You could also try scanning at even a higher resolution, but the files start to get pretty big.

Hi Bill,

Didn't see your attachments. I would be happy to try it from my end!

Hi Bill:

I use pdf with the AS all the time. This may or may not be the cause, but give it a shot.

If you are using a later version of AS, the software links the pdf to the AS software. When it does this, it imports the file in it file host, and as a result becomes pixalated.

To turn of the linked file hosting, (and this is where you will find out if this is the cause or not) click on ACTIVstudio i your menu bar, scroll down to preferences. When the dialog box comes up, select linked file hosting. Uncheck the box that represents link pdf file (I may be off on the wording, the computer I use AS with that has this on has the battery run out and i forgot the power supply at school, lol). When you uncheck this box, what will happen is the Adobe Reader will open and you can zoom all you like without losing any resolution.

Hope this works!

Not sure that I undertand the context correctly from the original question - but A PDF is a document file format and not really on "AS object" like an image or passage of text.

When you scan you should also have an option to save as JPEG - even with a resolution of 70-100 DPI it should be fine to import as an 'object' that you can strech/resize, etc.
