When I -with admin rights- run the shortcut to ActivStudio2 it opens up just fine, however if a teacher uses the exact same shortcut they receive the following error message:
"Problem obtaining valid path for application"
What's the problem here, and how can I fix it!

Hi
Can you create a new shortcut to c:\program files\activ software\Activstudio\as2pe.exe and place it on the users desktop.
Hopefully this will sort the problem

I tried creating that direct link in the Start Menu before posting but to no avail.
I've now tried it on the desktop as suggested but it's made no difference unfortunately.
Any more suggestions?
I've also found that if I log in as a teacher and then 'Run as' the shortcut with admin username this will work. Don't know if that information helps at all?

Hi all,
Perhaps this reply is a little late, but i've got the same problem.
The setup i have contains a workstation based on NT4 SP6, and the problem occurs when i try to start ACTIVstudio2 with an user-account.
With an admin account it works great, and even when i give the user-account local admin rights, it also works.
Im going to try to contact your technical support, if anyone else got an answer on this problem, please let me know.
Regards.

Update:
When i give "Everyone" full control in the registry, ACTIVstudio starts.
So the problem is a key(s), on wich the user must have rights.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Have you contacted Technical support direct? I am sure they will be able to help, as sometimes this type of thing is "peculiar" to particular setups. +wave+

Contacted the support department and they're working on it.
In the meantime i've narrowed the registry key down to HKLM/Software.
So when the users can access this bit of the registry, Activstudio works.
Probably gonna take some more time to find the actual key, so any ideas are welcome.
Btw, I've tried setting full control on the HKLM/Software/Active Software, but this doenst work. It still needs access somewhere else.
Grtz.

Hi guys,
Have you tried giving each user permission to the files? I could not run certain programs we have here in the school because the users did not have permission to read/write to the files.
I logged in as admin and gave the users permission under the "security" tab and the programs ran fine. You could give that a try.

Thanks for all your replies,
But I finally figured it out.
In my particular situation, i needed to give the following permissions:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer]
"Everyone" FULL CONTROL, including subkeys.
Appartantly the software also wants to write some things in here.
Thanks again,
