Not really a discussion but more of a tip:
If your LCD is blinding you, simply go into your System Preferences, click on Universal Access and under Display change from Black on White to White on Black. This will change your color settings, but I find that it is more appealing to the eye. Try it and enjoy using 'reversed' colors for a change.

Back to the chalkboard!
You can set your default flipchart page background to any colour if you are finding the default white to be too bright. Go to Preferences and then Flipchart

I've been doing this a while now, as my projector is really dim - white and yellow show up really well on a black background, much better than murky colours on a white background.
The only drawback is using the highlighter - it only highlights the white annotation, and doesn't show up as a yellow (say) highlight on the black background. It appears that the highlighter only works on the white (either background or annotation ) and not the black. Shame.
Another thing - set the default page size thing to have 1 page wide by several long, and you can have the effect of one of those rolling blackboards we use to have at school!
Ah, the good old days....

Unsure the grayscale box in the Universal access preferences is unchecked or choose a different colour for the highlighter - say the blue colour in the top left hand corner. You will get this effect (see pic)

Jonathan,
Thanks for the tip. I actually just finished creating an Activtip about that. It should be posted in the coming weeks!

I don't want to sound like a party pooper, but you really should be careful about displaying a largely black image from a projector for too long. It could affect the lcd panels, but of course it depends on the usage and type of projector.
It doesn't stop light shining on those bits of the image, it doesn't even dim the projector, it just makes the lcd panels block the light.
Another option for sanyo projector users might be to use the economy light mode in the projector settings menu, please take a look at the projector manual for more info.
