I am a math teacher in secondary ed. I find it very frustrating that the program does not have a microsoft equation type programing. It is very difficult to group fractions and symbols and keep dragging in.

There are 2 flipcharts on Promethean Planet that you may find useful:
Maths equation maker - it features numbers, letters, exponents and operation signs which you can simply drag together to make your equations.

and
Maths and Greek symbols

Hope this is the kind of thing you are looking for.

Are you really using Activprimary with your secondary Math classes? (just going by the Forum area you posted to...)

the best (and only reliable) way to create equations in AS is to do them in word and then use the (wonderful!) camera tool. Keep a copy of the word file in the same directory if you thiunk that you may need to edit the equation at a later date. As you say, there are limited symbols ... but I usually end up dragging separate boxes together (tedious :()

A post to another thread that I wrote a short while ago:
I have MathType on my toolbar (in the 3rd column). I click on it to open MathType.
Now if I am working on a flipchart page and need an equation, I use Alt-Tab to select MathType. I type the equation in MathType, select it (Ctrl-A), and drag it onto the flipchart page. So it is quite easy.
This is an image of the equation and not the equation itself, so if you want to make a change, you have to re-do it in MathType.
If you want 5 equations that are all similar, after you drag the equation onto the flipchart, press Ctrl-V to paste the equation back into MathType, make the changes and drag it, etc
Overall, using MathType with ActivStudio is reasonably easy.
Don't have MathType? Download it from the web for a 30-day free trial. After the 30 days are up, it continues to work in 'lite' mode, which is at least as good as Equation Editor.

When I use the "less than or equal to" (or the "greater than") symbols in text mode they don't show up at all. Anybody having similar problems or know a solution?

Could it be your font? Try doing it with another one and see if that works. Just an idea!
