Hi,

We've just put in our first Activboard, and had a question as to whether it was safe to use for a teacher who has a pacemaker.

Commander (the Australian distributor) hasn't been able to get an answer. The email they got back from Promethean AP said:
I suppose the pacemaker you mentioned is kind of pocket-size DJ system, one of electronics instrument. I would not recommend using it together with Activboard to avoid the possible magnetic interference. To confirm this you can disconnect/switch off the pacemaker in case that there’s a interference with Activboard.

I thought I'd ask here before trying to explain what a pacemaker actually is

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark

It's interesting how things get lost in the translation!

I wouldn't think that pacemakers would be a problem because 1. The electromagnetic field generated by the board only extends a few millimetres in front of the board; 2. The boards have been around for 10 years and to my knowledge there's been no incidents; 3. As far as I'm aware the regulations in the UK for electronic equipment are very stringent regarding interference.

Hi Mark,
Promethean Products meet the requirements of the International regulatory organisations for general public exposure.

We are not aware of any reason why the Activboard should present a hazard to any pacemaker user.
However we cannot guarantee that it will not cause malfunction with a particular model of pacemaker since it has not been tested in such a manner. We also cannot guarantee that a particular model of pacemaker has been designed in such a way as to make it immune to fields commonly found in the environment.

Ultimately the user must assess if they feel there is any problem when using the board and if they feel there may a problem they must exercise extreme caution and must cease using the board immediately.

I hope this helps +wave+
