I would value your opinion on something ????

What do you think of the following as a proposed project/product?+wave+

Using a range of approaches based upon improving children's memory skills and thereby increasing their potential; would there would be value in offering teachers a range of flipcharts which enabled them to build up their skill set to help children become more proficient in engaging their attention and ability to learn more successfully?

The initial flipchart would be free and would help teachers to deliver a lesson using some of the tools available in AS/AP and including Voting opportunities too.

There would be various styles of support in the form of written, audio and video tips showing examples of how to implement such a session.

We propose to offer the above to get some response – what do you think?+wave+

Sounds very interesting, Margaret. Can you tell us any more at the moment?

We are working with someone who has a particular skill for engaging people and thereby offering them the ability to improve their memory capability. He has had considerable success in engaging students and thereby giving them an additional skill set to help them succeed in the classroom and beyond.

Ideally he would travel to all the schools in the country (!), so by submitting flipchart material with supporting "teacher notes", videos, files, etc. hopefully he can impart some of his knowledge to a wider audience.

The topics could be anything, but could so easily fit into the PHSE/Citizenship agendas offering teachers the chance for discussion material but in harness with the above offer another layer of learning skill/opportunity. +wave+

So the first flipchart may well be some suggestions of how to get students thinking in a slightly different way and then by examples show teachers how to develop memory skills required to completely meet the full potential of the material.

This does sound interesting Margaret - haven't seen much around on the market for this sort of thing so I would expect there woudl be quiet alot of interest. Any idea as to which age ranges it would be marketed for?

The revised curriculum in Northern Ireland is going to change the way we empower our children with transferrable skills and I think this resource would be of great interest over here.
Do you envisage this will be available throughtout all the Key Stages?

Margaret, I can not tell you how powerful this would be. As a high school teacher we are looking for the ways that we can increase the memory of kids while still keeping them engaged. Then while you keep them engaged is the curriculum aligned and is it rigorous enough when you have helped to increased the engagement. When I develop flips, I an constantly looking at the engagement, alignment, and the rigor. But to be able to do all this and to increase their memeory and the potential to learn would be unbelievable. Sign me up!!!!!;)

It would be great to see the results of a trial like this on those middle of the road children - what can make them 'soar'. In NZ our whole philosophy is changing to really focus on the engagement of children, we are moving away from teacher directed learning to get the children engaged and learning about contexts that are relevant to them. So there is a big need here for teachers to learn more about how to make their lessons authentic - and some people are finding the change hard!! Personally I love it and and always pushing teachers to up the engagement of their children in a meaningful way.
I will be interested to see these lessons and hear about their success.

I'll look forward to hearing more about this Margaret!
